Fediverse vs Disinformation

1645 readers
292 users here now

Pointing out, debunking, and spreading awareness about state- and company-sponsored astroturfing on Lemmy and elsewhere. This includes social media manipulation, propaganda, and disinformation campaigns, among others.

Propaganda and disinformation are a big problem on the internet, and the Fediverse is no exception.

What's the difference between misinformation and disinformation? The inadvertent spread of false information is misinformation. Disinformation is the intentional spread of falsehoods.

By equipping yourself with knowledge of current disinformation campaigns by state actors, corporations and their cheerleaders, you will be better able to identify, report and (hopefully) remove content matching known disinformation campaigns.

Why would anyone say anything using their real name on social media these days

There’s absolutely nothing in it for you

This should always spur lawsuits

Where's the "but ma rights" crowd now? This is still the land of the free that I've heard about, right?

But don't worry, the corporate overlords who silence dissent and publish lies are the true bastions of a free press.

Hey boss, just so you understand me clearly.... I think Charlie Kirk got what was coming to him. The phrase "Reap what you sow" comes to mind. Fuck Charlie Kirk and fuck his hypocritical politics and all he did was spread hate.

When I read Chomsky's Manufacturing Consent I though yeah, that makes sense, but I didn't think it would be this prophetic.

And they say the US doesn't manufacture anything anymore...

"Don't question your christian nazi billionaire overlords, or it's your job and career! Now get out there and pretend we still have freedom of the press!" - the same nazi billionaires saying the same shit to their employees.

"And stop drawing pictures of guillotines in the break room!"

"Join the party or your career is over"

"we are having a bloody mary party on floor 31 the dress code is red neckties ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY FOR THE HR DEPARTMENT"

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

"The party has assigned you a fourth bloody Mary. Do not resist. Reminder that drunk party members are expected to repeat the assigned slurs and rhetoric. Your sister has been deemed a buzzkill by the party. You have been assigned shots and to denounce her."

Remember when the top Google image result for Comcast was a nazi flag? Seems that may have been close to the truth.

Well, we’ve never heard anything about him being in the Epstein files. But they should be released anyway just to make sure.

[–] LainTrain@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

For all we know, the feds got him because he was gonna say something about dear leader and the files and pinned it on upset liberals

[–] ScoffingLizard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 5 hours ago

Nope. GOP voted against releasing the files, and their party would be broken if that assassination would not have taken place.

(Relevent because they own NBCUniversal, MSNBC and a lot more)

[–] pyre@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

wrong thing? why, do they want to say he was a good person or something?

[–] Chip_Rat@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

Exactly. There are people who should be fired and even charged for the things they are posting in response to Kirk's death: All the foaming at the mouth rabid brain-dead assholes calling for a civil war/violent response.

That's actually not protected by free speech.

Saying "Charlie Kirk got the death he fought for and the world got a little better for it." Is protected.

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I guess now is the time to go underground and post and share things anonymously

[–] smeg@infosec.pub 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Don't worry, soon your internet presence on every web site will have to be linked to your real identity, for the children or something

the internet age monitor can suck each one of my many and shriveled buttholes.
