Boycott US

Overview:

The community dedicated to boycotting the US until they stop fascism, restore full democracy and start following international law.

Americans have a moral obligation to resist Donald Trump and project 2025 at every turn.

America is a flawed democracy currently being ruled by oligarchs. Stop the backslide! Dont let America become the next Hungary.

America needs to challenge the court rulings of citizens united v. fec and shelby county v. holder, protect the media, implement independent district drawing, and the single transferable vote so they don't end up having people stay home in life-changing elections because they cannot vote for their favourite candidate.

I looked at sync.com but they dont have a linux client. Any other non-US based suggestions? Canada preferred of course but I'm open to options.

I'm not familliar with other software from Canada, but there are a lot of european alternatives to OneDrive and afaik all of them host outside the US.

Proton Drive, Infomaniak's kDrive, pCloud are all Swiss, and Filen and Nextcloud are German, with the latter being self-hostable. I have personally tried both Filen and pCloud and found them easy to use.

Hetzner Storage Share: https://www.hetzner.com/storage/storage-share/. Hosted in Germany. It will be your own Nextcloud server with storage, calendars , reminders, and more. And you will be able to install many plugins. For example, you can install an OnlyOffice plugin that lets you edit files online like Office 365.

Oh, and there's a Nextcloud client for Linux: https://flathub.org/en/apps/com.nextcloud.desktopclient.nextcloud

Hetzner works great (I still have the old 3€ 100GB option myself), but they explicitly state that OnlyOffice and Collabora cannot be used with StorageShare in the FAQ: https://docs.hetzner.com/storage/storage-share/faq/additional-apps

I got it working by installing the plugin community Document Server: https://apps.nextcloud.com/apps/documentserver_community

Nextcloud is the way to go in my opinion. Hetzner is probably the cheapest option except self-hosting.

I'm using https://murena.io/ because they develop my phone OS, so I'm happy to leave behind a bit of money. I'm still saving a lot on having cancelled my Dropbox subscription.

I mean, if you’re on Linux, does one drive offer you something beyond samba? Maybe setup a web dav server?

There's an open source client for Onedrive for linux.

Sorry let me rephrase. Does using one drive offer you any functionality that WebDAV/samba would not?

Depending on your needs, syncthing might be worth looking at. Here's a copy/paste description.

"Syncthing is a continuous file synchronization program. It synchronizes files between two or more computers in real time".

If you have two or more devices, it fulfills most of the same functions. But it doesn't inherently provide offsite storage.

Maybe check Hetzner shared storage. You can store in Finland if you want.

I use Stormweb, it is a Canadian Nextcloud host. I am moving all my tech out of US places, slowly family still uses FaceTime, so I needed something that I could back up my pi data.

kDrive and Proton Drive both fit the bill here, plus either option would drastically increase the privacy of your data compared to OneDrive.

Anyone considering Proton anything should probably read up on recent controversies before making the move. I profoundly regret signing up for proton mail.

I use pCloud.

https://www.pcloud.com/

You can choose whether to host in Europe vs USA.

According to the contact us page, they are in Switzerland.

With Linux support and zero knowledge encryption, i know of Tresorit(Switzerland) and filen(Germany). Tresorit is a bit costly depending on the space that you need. Filen had goods deal on black friday last year and is more affordable.
