Ask Lemmy
A Fediverse community for open-ended, thought provoking questions
Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, and toxicity are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com.
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world or !askusa@discuss.online
Reminder: The terms of service apply here too.

Yea my first ever account was before emails were required and it was nuked a while back.
Fuck Reddit and Fuck Spez.
up to the top you go
Easy upvote
It might be because it wasn't linked to an email.
I haven't really used mine in years, but it still signs me in when I need to pop in there to look something up.
Iโll look at /all every once in a while but the whole meta of Reddit is toxic. I had a 12 year old account permabanned cause I disagreed with a mod on a fucking stupid subreddit
it's like they just started nuking all the old heads. by the time I left almost all +10 yr accounts were moderators or /[deleted]
I just logged into mine. no email address associated with it, and it let me in. first time I've used that account in probably 12 months and it still works. ๐คท
and it's gone..
What do you mean with this?
they logged in to check their account if it was still active. Reddit saw them removed it. (joke)
the meme is from southpark https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/and-its-gone
after a period of inactivity they do delete your account to free up your username for use. your comments should still be at their addresses, the account will just read "deleted" or something
Reddit undeleted an old account of mine before their IPO. More accounts = more value?
They seem to be going after +10 year old accounts, mine was permabanned for ban evasion with zero email telling me what comment or community it was for
No bannable offenses? That's a banning
While I'd personally rather have more users over here producing comments and posts and such, I'd point out that unless something has changed, you can browse Reddit without an account or logging in, from a Web browser. You just can't post, comment or vote.
Specifically for subreddits flagged as NSFW, Reddit's "new" Web UI will demand that mobile users install their app, but you can bypass that by using the "old" Web UI.
goes to check to see if that still works
Huh. Actually, there is a change, but not the way I'd expected. It looks like at least where I am, California, now even the new Reddit Web UI lets anonymous users into NSFW subreddits using a mobile web browser, just by clicking on an "I declare that I am 18+" button. That definitely had not been the case. Maybe these countries declaring age restriction laws basically made them review their policy, and some of the changes have actually made it more-permissive, based on geolocation of IP.

Now both are accessible. I will bet that that's not what people in the UK see, though (well, not unless they're on some sort of VPN with an exit node in a place with different laws).
yep, no NSFW without an account. which sadly, means a lot of things other that porn.
seems like they're getting it up to reg for having kiddies on in the youtube kinds of numbers
Quite possibly. I've always signed up for any accounts with a disposable email, but it looks like one of mine that isn't over a year old isn't showing up. MFers.
If you're still invested in reddit in any way you are fucking up
