Carney is in a political quandary where the opposition demands continued trade talks with the US while everybody also knows behind the scenes any “deals” made cannot be trusted.

At some point Carney will have to say the quiet part aloud and state that we’re focusing only on reliable trade partners.

He’s already said that.

I think it’s okay to continue talking while e we find our alternatives. It buys time.

This. Canadians are understandably angry at the USA right now but they need to accept the reality that we share a border with the US and that we still have to do what we can to maintain somewhat peaceful relations.

Exactly. The us is collapsing. They will be a very dangerous country as this happens. We dont want any resentment as this happens. We want all of the violence, if any, to happen within their own borders and not to us.

The way the world is now. I expect to for people to just let the violence spill over.

Who do we find though. That's the problem with just fine another trading partner. America is the 1000 lb elephant in the room, they are the biggest market by a lot. So who do you replace them with.

Not to mention a truck trip away compared to a truck run to get to a train to get to a ship that unloads to a train that unloads to a truck to get to its destination.

CETA AND CPTPP for a start.

I'm very pessimistic about how successful this is going to be.

MMW the US withdraws from CUSMA and it’s replaced by nothing. the US is a shitshow, shithole, clown country run by objective morons, supported by even more morons who want everything that’s happening.

Yet somehow people expect Carney to be able to negotiate some kind of favourable deal with a recalcitrant man-baby who still holds a grudge against Canada because Trump hotel Toronto removed his name or something. Sometimes you have to wait for the knife to stop stabbing before you can try to stop the bleeding, much less heal the wound
