I'm planning a future eMTB project and I'm trying to get the tools that I need. What repair stand would guys recommend?

I caved and got a feedback ultralight as it was billed as less tippy than two leg stands and can hold bikes up to 75lbs. Which covers all our ebikes and mtbs. It's expensive, but I haven't had any issues with it dropping the bike.

It also weighs 10 lbs, which is light enough to stick in a pannier, which is awesome.

I looked into fixed and mechanized options, but they were just too expensive/you'd need a dedicated workshop for them.

  • What's your budget?
  • How strong are you, i.e. what is your capacity for repeatedly lifting a heavy bike into the stand?
  • What is your anticipated build weight?
  • How much floor space do you have/need?
  • How many steps to your tool bench? Will you need additional trays attached to your workstand?
  • Do you have wheel truing available elsewhere or will you also want wheel-work management with your stand?
  • Will you need the stand to be portable or put away when you are done wrenching?

I have one of these that is supposedly eBike capable. It works fine for me at home, though I haven't had anything that heavy on it. I have to admit the Park stands we have at work, which have a very heavy metal plate anchoring them to the floor, are pretty nice, but this one works reasonably well for a lot less money and offers portability. I used it to build my gravel bike, and for most of my maintenance since then.

I did accidentally scratch one of my bikes on the bolt, but I don't see why the same thing couldn't happen with a better stand. (I tried spraying rubberized coating - Plasti-dip - on the end to try to avoid that issue in the future, but I'm not sure if it'll actually help.)

Note I've seen the same stand with different brand names on Amazon, so make sure you're getting the best price.

I got a velcro strap to tie it up when it's folded up.

I've been very happy with my Feedback Sports Pro Mechanic repair stand. It's not the cheapest, but we'll worth it. Very stable and the ratcheting clamp makes adjusting for different tube sizes very easy.
