Why are you still trying to get people say that street racing is OK ? You tried several times, framed the question many ways, and are reduced to comparing it to another terrible selfish behaviour to try and have a smidgen of validation... That's kind of sad actually, when you ask questions, you should have the courage to face any answer, not just the one you wished for, and respect that

illegal drunk street racing

[–] stoy@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 days ago

Neither.

This is not a question with a single answer out of two.

One could even argue that illegal street racing is worse, since it does not require the use of substances that affects your judgements, and you still do it.

But both shows a complete disregards for other people's safety.

The public roads are not a playground, if you want to race, find a track, if you want to try and drive drunk, arrange it on private, fenced off land.

[–] Junkers_Klunker@feddit.dk 14 points 3 days ago

Both are proper fucking bad. Take your car to a track, autoX or whatever (if possible) or buy the slowest possible car and take it to a backroad where you can see the road ahead and learn to go as fast as possible around a corner. Don’t fucking do anything dumb around other people, I don’t care if you kill yourself but I will care if you kill some innocent person. And drunk driving, that I won’t even comment on.

But a question to you, why are you hellbent on streetracing?

[–] Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz 17 points 3 days ago (3 children)

DD, how is this even a question?

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 9 points 3 days ago

Because OP wants to justify their illegal street racing.

[–] Nemo@slrpnk.net 9 points 3 days ago

Wild to pick designated drivers as the worst option here.

[–] mysticpickle@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 days ago

There's nothing wrong with big breasts 🥵

One more post like this and I swear I'm going to find out who you are and report you for street racing.

It’s Squeeze Benz.

If you don’t know it’s a YouTuber, who has made some crazy street racing videos or just plainly inciting the police to chase them in Lambos and stuff.

[–] Canopyflyer@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Based upon the negative impact to society: Drunk driving and it's not even close.

That is not to say that illegal street racers deserve any kind of award. They are a special kind of fucking idiot. They just don't tend to kill as many people. Back in my teens, I was one of those fucking idiots. Until I witnessed a girl, about my own age, being struck and killed by a street racer.

That was the last time I ever raced on the street. I still raced, I just took the time to get my licenses and spent the money to do it on a track. Honestly, once you race on a track you realize just how stupid street racing really is on so many levels.

[–] Junkers_Klunker@feddit.dk 4 points 3 days ago

Exactly 🤘 tracking your car is so much more rewarding than street racing. Not only does it get the adrenaline going, but the feeling of beating your pb/friend is absolutely amazing 👌

[–] zxqwas@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago

I'm more likely to get killed by a DUI than a racer. But I have no clue how this would change if I adjusted for how often they occur.

Either way I'd prefer none of either, but current enforcement and priority is sufficient where I live.

[–] anothermember@feddit.uk 11 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Illegal street racing, being more of a calculated act, seems marginally worse morally. Of course it goes without saying that's not to defend drunk driving.

[–] kbobabob@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Because no one makes the decision to drive somewhere, get hammered, and then drive home? Calculated or not, it's still a decision being made. Both are dumb decisions that can and do kill people.

[–] anothermember@feddit.uk 4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Where did I say anything that implied otherwise?

[–] positiveWHAT@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

Illegal street racing being more preemptive and calculated is more immoral, unless they block the road to be certain of clear road, but drunk driving is overall worse as they are less in control.

[–] palordrolap@fedia.io 4 points 3 days ago

There's also that drunk driving is usually lone participation, so there's only one nutter involved.

But yes. Regardless of whether one is worse than the other, they're both terrible and doing neither is the best option.

By analogy, I've invented a limb-chomper machine. Sometimes it mangles limbs when one is put into it. At least 50% of the time it doesn't. So will you put in an arm or a leg?

And, get this, despite being an analogy, the machine is safer than either drunk driving or illegal street racing because only the user is at risk! Amazing!

[–] quediuspayu@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 3 days ago

One, at the bare minimum, tries to avoid having other cars on the road while the other doesn't care at all.

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.org 9 points 3 days ago

Depends on the age of the participants. Anyone over 21-23?

People street racing at least don't typically seem like they're distracted by things like phones; I almost trust them more than the average driver.

[–] Fyrnyx@kbin.melroy.org 4 points 3 days ago

Drunk driving, easy.

The problem is how easy some of the drunk drivers get off. I watch a lot of court videos and people have racketed up like 7 DUIs and still somehow get chance after chance. It is only until they actually kill someone do they face harsh penalties and even then, it is a coinflip depending on the judge and how the process is carried out.

[–] slazer2au@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

It's not a competition they are both as bad as each other where accidents cause deaths to innocent bystanders.

[–] AlexisFR@jlai.lu 1 points 2 days ago

No such thing as street racing here, so it's drunk driving.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 4 points 3 days ago

Illegal drunk street racing

[–] urheber@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Illegal street racing, because it's stupid

[–] coaxil@lemmy.zip 6 points 3 days ago

Drunk driving isn't stupid?

[–] Vanth@reddthat.com 1 points 3 days ago

The only street racing I've seen IRL was out on a quiet road with lookouts on both ends to spot if cops / other cars were coming. There wasn't much danger to anyone but the drivers.

If comparing drunk driving to Fast & Furious street racing the answer might be different, but comparing to what I suspect is what more commonly happens in street racing, drunk driving is more dangerous.
