Did you get anywhere with this?

I'm also curious.

Whilst a VPN does work I find it to be an annoyance

Might have to bite the bullet and pay for VPN, NGL... but I'm not very tech savvy.

VPN probably. Dunno about this act but it will most likely help. Maaaaybe many vpns are blocked, especially the free ones. That you'd have to check. But if, you'd have to find some nore unknown providers or pay a bit more.

I've wondered how feasible it is to see if anyone sells von by the 5 year mark, just so I can continue to access even if they don't serve my country anymore

[โ€“] Dyskolos@lemmy.zip 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I have some lifetime accounts actually, so yes. And after some years it also paid off ๐Ÿ˜

The one of the top of my head, running 24/7 on my piracy-server, is solidvpn.

AirVPN is one i also use (for port-sharing!), but they don't offer lifetime-accounts (anymore?) or maybe on occasion. But they have 3-yrs

Both very reliable and nearly 100% online. But check first if your country bans them. Which country btw did this shit?

If you're a cheap fuck like me, wait for black-friday or similar. Most compete hard for the best discounts there. Unlike Amazon and co :-)

Thanks for all of this, I've been reading into these options since you left your comment. You trust them then? No logging, secure? Good endpoints?

[โ€“] Dyskolos@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

You're welcome. Trust? Well, trust is hard to come by these days on the net :) Airvpn is italy-based, so if privacy is important, take them. They're here for a long time now, never heard complaints and founded by hackers/pirates. Also we (EU) have strict privacy-regulations. SolidVPN is based in the USA, so...I'd never use those for sensitive stuff. No matter what they promise. They're forced to do so.

There are also Mullvad, Proton, Surfshark, etc.

If you're REALLY serious about your safety and privacy is paramount: take one outside the 5/9/14 Eyes alliances, like CyberGhost (Romania). Generally Romania rocks in those regards. High speed, cheap prices, and most importantly: PRIVACY. Also you could torrent there, in case that's of any interest and not allowed where you live (like here in germany).

Hope you manage to avoid your stupid OSA. It's never really about "Safety".

Reddit and other websites block vpns or proxies

[โ€“] mistermodal@lemmy.ml 1 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

There are zero sites worth visiting that block VPN endpoints. Reddit is easily accessible without participation through Libreddit/Teddit/probably others, and I remember being able to use it fine with Mullvad, although my account was clearly being treated with suspicion.

Don't use Reddit and other websites, and delete accounts or connections to them

You shouldn't support those sites. They are working to destroy your human rights.

But there are sites that are based outside the U.S that work.

[โ€“] Deme@sopuli.xyz 1 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Reddit works fine with tor. At least old.reddit, and I'm not using an account. Sometimes it requires a couple of refreshes or a new path.

IIRC they also have an onion site.

The stolen id in the black market is booming in this one :(

[โ€“] HouseWolf@pawb.social 3 points 5 days ago

If you're willing to buy a stolen iD please just pay for a VPN.

You can pay for Mullvad by mailing them cash or buying a gift card off Amazon.
