Man, this is the party that has a so-called "president" who is obsessed with paving over the Rose Garden, levying random tariffs illegally on countries, installing a ballroom, taking over the Kennedy Center, thirsting for a Nobel Peace Prize for doing nothing, building a triumph arc, having a UFC fight at the WH, has a whole shit-ton of Confederate influencers that cheered a shut down because they wanted more of their shitty schemes to be rammed through, and has a lot of the base positively giddy about having people stolen off the street by armed masked unidentified thugs, who may not even be ICE for all we know.

And this asshat sits there and pretends to show deep concern that the media is wondering about one of their accepting 50,000 in cash and acts like the real concern is the American people? What is all that other shit going to do for the American people? Even the stupid brainstems that still worship Taco are not going to benefit from any of that shit...

My gawd, what a fucking asshole.

About time people start pushing back hard on these guys. I'm so sick of Murc's Law and bothsiderism presiding over the mainstream corporate news. They let Republicans get away with brazen lying and red herring attacks on the media itself. And they so often accept right wing framing - blaming the shutdown on the Democrats? I mean, the fucking balls of even trying that lie....

This is a good example of why I don't think Vance will be able to supplant Trump. Trump is a master troll, he does a way better job of baiting people to keep engaging with him. You have to be the right kind of frustrating. Vance is just irksome, but not in a way that baits you or makes you wish you could try your hand at debating with him. Trump manages to make it so enticing to keep talking to him. He makes it feel like you might be able to get a good own in on him if you just try. But Vance is such a tryhard and just reads as this annoying little fly that you can just swat away

A master troll? He just leveraged the weaponization of hate and stupidity during a time of economic unrest.

I think you're giving him too much credit here.

Specific to his ability to keep the media engaged, i think it's that he's just exactly the right kind of stupid.

I think about how Ken M is so effective at dragging people into his stupidity...now that is BRILLIANT. Calculated. A true master.

Trump is merely a savant. Mozart to Ken M's Salieri.

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 13 points 4 hours ago (2 children)

No he doesn't. Any time anyone asks Trump anything other than a fawning non-question, he just berates them and shuts them down. I've never seen him actually debate a single thing.

[–] mfed1122@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 1 hour ago

For sure, I'm not saying Trump actually debates anyone. It's just that his specific way of being obnoxious and combative is so much more effective at goading people into engaging with him.

No puppet! No puppet! You’re the puppet!

I think thats kind of the point of him; he makes donny look like a stateman in comparison. More to the point, I think hes meant to be a vessel to transfer the control of the maga party to someone else once Donny dies.

Donnie dies, he becomes president, maga goes into mourning. Pundits dismiss anyone trying to make a move for leadership, except whoever theil et al have chosen as the replacement, who gets to 'campaign' to the base without competition (everyone else gets told its not the time, to have respect for trump, and the nation is mounting etc)

After their new guy has had time to ingratiate himself to the magats, Vance nominates him to VP. The media then plays up Vance's unlikeability, and blames everything thats failing under trump right now on him- and hes either forced to step down, or 25thed as unfit, allowing the new guy to take the office of presidency. Bonus is if they can string out president vance until the halfway mark, the new guy gets 2 years that dont count as a term for him- meaning he can rule for 10 years before they have to worry about abolishing term limits or finding a new figurehead.

This is a horrible outcome for us, but Vance should just choose MTG if he wants to go rogue and stay president. She’s definitely not going to be thiels pick, and she’s got enough cachet with the MAGA crowd to keep them happy. He might even think that would defang her, like it has with other VPs, but I think she’d find some way to steal the spotlight on a regular basis.

Again, I cannot stress enough that this would be the worst choice for anyone other than Vance and MTG

[–] Xanthobilly@lemmy.world 43 points 5 hours ago (3 children)

I cannot imagine being a vice president. You do jack squat and serve as a lap dog all on the hopes that the person above you dies, which rarely happens because of state of the art healthcare. Moreover in Vance’s case the last guy to occupy the position was threatened with gallows.

[–] klammeraffe@lemmy.cafe 31 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Depending on the administration, the role is pretty defined. In this administration, I’m surprised anyone knows what their job is.

There are a few firm roles, outlined in the constitution. Here is one that (imo) he isn’t doing:

25th Amendment roles: The VP helps determine if the president is unable to discharge their duties (for example, during illness or incapacity).

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

It's not even the mental or illegal parts. Trump has the mini stroke droop, has obviously been getting stuck, and has been slurring his words. He at least needs to take a long vacation to get better.

[–] klammeraffe@lemmy.cafe 7 points 4 hours ago

A long vacation at the bottom of a lake wearing therapeutic concrete shoes.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 11 points 5 hours ago

Sit in Senate hearings, study/learn break ties. Honestly not a bad job when you don't have a crazy administration. But it hasn't been smooth sailing for a VP in about 51 years now

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 5 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

My favourite scenario like that is with King Charles .... he sat around all his life waiting for his mom to kick the bucket but she hung on for decades ... now King Charles' body is basically shutting down and he now gets to put the crown on while feeling miserable

[–] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 9 points 4 hours ago

Well he shouldn't have been such a mummys boy and should have committed regicide.

[–] Iamsqueegee@sh.itjust.works 6 points 4 hours ago

Heavy is the head that wears the crown (when the neck is weak and feeble).

[–] criss_cross@lemmy.world 21 points 5 hours ago (3 children)

I listened to the clip from ABC. No wonder George cut him off. Vance spent the entire time being a belligerent prick.

[–] pedz@lemmy.ca 15 points 4 hours ago

But don't most MAGA do that during interviews? A reporter will ask a perfectly tame question and they will start accusing them of being woke antifa working for the Democrats.

Good if they are finally calling out that BS.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 6 points 4 hours ago

Did George even say thank you though?

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 6 points 4 hours ago

When is he ever not?

Lmao, I hope other lemmies appreciate this gem.

[–] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 hours ago

I try to post it to every Vance story. It's my fav gif of him.
