If you've got a 'fake' christmas tree, then absolutely display that thing every year for at least twenty years to lessen the environmental impact without the fire risk of bringing a real tree without roots indoors.

I grew up with a plastic Christmas tree. It doesn't go up every year in my parent's house. I was pretty happy to see my parents pose with it this year. It's now 35 years old.

There is a company that tried this as a start up actually. You'd adopt a tree, they'd deliver it in a big pot, then haul it back up a field after Christmas. It came marked so you'd get the same tree every year until the pot was too small, then they'd permanently plant it and give you a new tree.

It's a good idea but more expensive than I'd like, so fake tree for 20 years it is.

Mine has existed for like 15 years… it lost many of its leaves and for the past 5 years we have been saying we’ll get a new one this year

Not if you never take it down

I got a tree bag and it has changed my life.

My tree bag ripped, so I duct taped it.

Us too. Totally worth the $$, and especially getting a good one.

But the GOAT is a legand my wife tells me about, from her chidhood. A friend of her mother's was an elderly widow, a German immigrant. She had a parlor with a fireplace which she kept closed up, except for at Christmas. Then she'd open it up; it stayed perpetually decorated for the holiday, tree and all. At the end of the season, she'd put sheets on the furniture and close the room again until the next Christmas.

I always admired Frau Erdle.

My mom still has hers from the 90s, I kid you not. I think it is a Cole Brand tree or something like that. Looks small compared to the ones they sell now.

There's always the absolute joy of reaching your arm through what feels like barbed wire to connect lights.
