I’m not interested unless I see “First transmitted via telegraph by the US Government, 1883.” in the about section of the game store.

[-] CharlesReed@kbin.social 19 points 11 months ago

I cannot play unless Ben Franklin himself has endorsed it.

Growing horns by farting on citizens in Fable

[-] ICastFist@programming.dev 5 points 11 months ago

Don't forget to find one of those citizens that are temporarily immortal to punch and kick their shit for maximum physical experience. I loved doing that on that first city, after finishing the quest where the dude convinces you to change your hair and beard "for his daughter".

[-] match@pawb.social 22 points 11 months ago

Does dwarf fortress count as a modern game or a 20 year old game?

[-] CharlesReed@kbin.social 16 points 11 months ago
[-] Rakonat@lemmy.world 8 points 11 months ago

Both and a game 20 years from the future when Toady finally finishes it.

[-] Daxtron2@startrek.website 3 points 11 months ago

Nah we're going to transfer his consciousness into a robit so he can keep working forever

Me and my RuneScape account are plenty offended, thank you

[-] Dagnet@lemmy.world 13 points 11 months ago

No no, he said 10 years, not 20

[-] irmoz@reddthat.com 17 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Haha how weird and quirky! A game from 2013? No one's ever played those before! You must be so special and unique! But not as special and unique as me, playing games from the 80s! Oh wait. There's nothing special and unique about any of this.

[-] misophist@lemmy.world 21 points 11 months ago

Oof. You made a conscious decision to be like this.

[-] uriel238@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 11 months ago

I am totally going to borrow this reply, though usually it's not true; the choice to be cruel and bitter typically a subconscious need to lash out.

Let people enjoy things smh

[-] irmoz@reddthat.com 4 points 11 months ago

But I AM! Enjoy things! Just don't expect to be called special because you do.

[-] JackRiddle@sh.itjust.works 14 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

???? Who is expecting that here exactly?

I find it curious to see people having this sort of insecurity (in some cases, some sort of aversion) with playing older games, while they don't have it with other media, like books or music.

[-] irmoz@reddthat.com 7 points 11 months ago

Exactly! You never see someone saying "haha, watching a 50 year old film, oh crazy me!" when watching Star Wars.

[-] uriel238@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 11 months ago

I was ten when it came out in the theaters. It was glorious.

I'm so fucking old.

[-] boborhrongar@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago

They probably posted it here specifically because they knew people would find it relatable, actually.

I think it was more about the getting goals done in a game instead of real life, and the 10 years was tacked on because some people do like to keep up on the newer games.

[-] Jorgelino@lemmy.ml 15 points 11 months ago
[-] TwinTusks@bitforged.space 6 points 11 months ago

Exactly, why is that a ... negative?

[-] ICastFist@programming.dev 15 points 11 months ago

I would say this is all about Skyrim, but I do think that game still is very popular today

[-] _dev_null@lemmy.zxcvn.xyz 13 points 11 months ago

My top two games played this year are over 10 years old each.

My 3rd most played is Baldur's Gate 3, weighing in at 250 hours, so I've got that going for me.

[-] CharlesReed@kbin.social 5 points 11 months ago

Mine were 7 and 14, respectively, and then I had Diablo 4, so I understand.

*while ignoring any real-life counterpart of any of those. (except goals, kinda, since your goal at the moment is doing those things in that game).

[-] ivanafterall@kbin.social 14 points 11 months ago

The real-life mission system is totally broken. I've accomplished tons of goals and the rewards usually don't even trigger, at all.

[-] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Plus the classes are ridiculously unbalanced! "Billionaire" and "loud religious idiot" need to be nerfed yesterday! Don't even get me started on how game breaking playing a hybrid of those is!

[-] ICastFist@programming.dev 3 points 11 months ago

Billionaire ain't a class, it's just an unpatched exploit. It's really easy to pull if you already have at least some millions lying around.

[-] CharlesReed@kbin.social 11 points 11 months ago

My goal is to ignore irl goals for in-game ones 😤

[-] FakeGreekGirl@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 11 months ago

Steam sales, yo!

[-] KingThrillgore@lemmy.ml 11 points 11 months ago

I started playing Project Zomboid this year. Its about a decade old but they're still adding features.

[-] samus12345@lemmy.world 10 points 11 months ago

Why does it matter how old the game is?

[-] sebinspace@lemmy.world 8 points 11 months ago

Gran Turismo 4 is 20 years old..

[-] CharlesReed@kbin.social 5 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

And DOOM hit 25 this year.

Edit: I'm stupid at math, it's actually 30 lol

[-] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 5 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Half Life is 25; I've been slowly working my way through the anniversary edition

[-] MrGerrit@feddit.nl 4 points 11 months ago

It turned 30 this December! So much rip & tear !

There's only a few games I played before release, RimWorld and Stone Shard.

Currently I'm playing Beneath a Steel Sky from 1994, and Fallout 4 is next.

And I will celebrate with you each time you recover the Amulet of Yendor

[-] moistclump@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago

Ahh that sweet sweet dopamine. If you don’t have any handy, gamebought is fine.

[-] LaunchesKayaks@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago

Oblivion is my fave Elder Scrolls game

[-] dudinax@programming.dev 5 points 11 months ago

Imagine how much cooler you'd be if the game were newer.

[-] TotallynotJessica@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago

Nah. Older games are often less fancy, so gameplay and execution need to carry. Time culls the mediocre, leaving only the memorable behind.

[-] tryagain@lemmy.ml 4 points 11 months ago
