He's my Congressman, been following this from day-1. Nothing is going to happen, or it already would have.

His dirtbag friend, who was supposed to roll on conviction, was convicted, and did not. The girl in question, 17 at the time, is now an adult with an OnlyFans site. Not a good look for the prosecution, and she refuses to testify.

If you were paying attention in NW Florida, Gaetz STFU real quick while under investigation. Suddenly, The Mouth from the South was at it again. He's safe. He knows it.

This "investigation" is another stab at him since he's been acting the ass. Maybe they got an angle on him this time, but don't hold your breath.

Sorry folks. He's skating this. The man is certainly guilty of far more than fucking a girl <365 days from adulthood, but we got nothing that sticks.

Maybe, maybe not. Gaetz has made few friends and many enemies in Washington. They have grudges. They also don't have to worry about the math: there's no way his replacement won't be deep-red GOP. Further, they have recently ejected one of their own despite lack of a criminal conviction - Santos was destroyed by an ethics investigation which gave them cover to vote him out.

Timing will be interesting though - Gaetz will certainly win reelection. Do they pull the trigger now just to have to welcome him back next January?

It's [idiotic|par for the course] that this is a factor. Should be finding the people who think that matters and push them south until they run out of dry land plus a little beyond.

His whole thing got sidelined for him, but he broke the rules and empowered the Fuckface Caucus to make the House Republicans look foolish, and they're coming for their pound of flesh.

Least creepy photo they could find of him

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 7 points 9 months ago

I don't think there is a 'least creepy' photo of him.

The sex with the 17-year-old was, apparently, consensual- or at least no one is saying otherwise- meaning at least one member of the opposite sex actually found him attractive enough to let him put his penis inside her. And that just depresses me.

Feels important to say that statutory rape cannot be consensual

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

I suppose that's true. I was just trying to suggest that almost no one finds him attractive.

Shithead needs at least a dime in prison, but daddy and/or his slimy friends will get him off the hook

This is the best summary I could come up with:

The outreach, which has not previously been reported, is a sign that the GOP-led committee’s investigation into the Florida Republican has recently expanded to include questioning around allegations of sex crimes.

“If a request seems merited, as part of the usual accommodation process between the legislative and executive branches, DOJ will sometimes provide some information,” Eisen said, “but they tend to be withholding of sensitive investigative materials.”

Even when the House issues a subpoena, the Justice Department typically holds back much of their internal investigative materials, Eisen said.

In late 2020, under Trump-appointed Attorney General Bill Barr, the Justice Department opened an investigation into allegations Gaetz may have had sexual contact with a minor.

The Ethics Committee, controlled at the time by Democrats, originally opened its Gaetz investigation in 2021, publicly announcing that it was examining a range of allegations including that Gaetz violated sex trafficking laws, shared inappropriate images or videos on the House floor, used illicit drugs, converted campaign funds to personal use and accepted a bribe, among other claims.

A source familiar with the House panel’s work previously told CNN that the Justice Department’s decision not to bring charges against Gaetz does not impact what the committee will and won’t investigate.
