Whoah there, who has the money for an amp? You patch directly into the PA and that's perfectly fine.

[-] Thcdenton@lemmy.world 9 points 9 months ago

Geddy Lee been doing that for years. He just puts a washer and dryer where his amps used to sit 😁

Exactly what I do for shows, I'm the first one off the stage besides the vocalist. But then I have joy and privilege to help breakdown the drums ;-;

Shouldn't the bassist be complaining about not having a 20 string bass?

[-] ReeferPirate@lemy.lol 19 points 9 months ago

Why more than four string when not more than four finger?

No thumb string. Make string smell bad.

Source: Am bassist.

Other thumb.

Don’t brag.

Once, our bassist did a rehersal with only the E and the A string just to prove a point, so I guess that's subjective

[-] 0ops@lemm.ee 4 points 9 months ago

The bassist for the presidents of the USA plays two string, and the guitarist plays three

[-] Luci@lemmy.ca 2 points 9 months ago

Every other sting is just a backup after all!

Personally I don't like moving my hand up and down the neck too much, I'd prefer to just have as many strings as possible so my left hand barely moves. Gonna need 24 strings now.

[-] bamboo@lemm.ee 2 points 9 months ago

24 strings, all tuned a half step apart, 1 fret

[-] ryan213@lemmy.ca 13 points 9 months ago

Bassist? You mean a bass guitarist??

Not my fault they like fat strings.

[-] Yerbouti@lemmy.ml 13 points 9 months ago

Well, you just need to add a nice chorus pedal. And maybe a compressor too. You dont need a distorsion effect, an overdrive will be fine. Now, just get a flanger, an octaver, get a nice cab to match that new tube amp and you will be all set! Oh and btw these strings are looking old, you might wanna get new ones since you're getting a new fretless bass anyway.

Well i am a “bassist” and the top one is more me :)

[-] TexasDrunk@lemmy.world 5 points 9 months ago

I'm in this picture twice.

My guitar gear looks eerily similar to the first picture. Many guitars (not quite that many, but too many), several amps, and a whole bunch of pedals. I have separate pedalboards for different kinds of music all set up with my favorite settings marked so I don't have to think too much on stage.

Plus I own a Gibson EB-0 bass that was passed down to me by the guy who taught me how to play when he died and a Trace Elliott bass combo that's falling apart. They sound great. No need for anything else.

Me but instead I’m chilling with my acoustic guitar.

[-] Xanthrax@lemmy.world 4 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

We use effects pedals in prog metal all the time! 46 and 2 was the first song I learned, and it uses a phaser. Also, almost all the bass Daft Punk makes, is run through an effect.

Standard stuff like a compresser and a sound gate can be nice too.

[-] Bleach7297@lemmy.ca 3 points 8 months ago

Pedals and effects are so excessive.

Now excuse me while I re-enforce the stage under my 900W all tube head, 4x10 and 1x15 cabs.

[-] Pezportz@lemmynsfw.com 2 points 9 months ago

I agree that a musicman is the only bass you need.

[-] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 4 points 9 months ago

It's only downside is it's not a rickenbacker through strung body

[-] SteefLem@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

Read someone had to wait 18 months and a lot of calling them to get a rick.

[-] iamericandre@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

I like plugging straight in as a guitar player, maybe my tuner but I don’t use a lot of effects.

[-] GuyFi@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 9 months ago

Dude I plug my active bass without using the active eq with both pickups on full directly into my interface and I love the tone, this feels targeted
