Come now, we've invaded far fewer of the world's countries than the UK.

The real hypocrisy is that every last fucking one of us comes from immigrants, and yet half of us are eager to pull up the ladder behind us.

[–] Mr_Blott@lemmy.world 27 points 2 years ago (5 children)

Invaded fewer, yes. Destabilised for greed and oil, causing mass migration to European countries, that's a whole other story lol

Except the natives who people just like to forget

[–] thisbenzingring@lemmy.sdf.org 13 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

we might be forgot but we never forget

its just that we want our ancestral land to be preserved and respected. Rare have I ever heard someone from the rez hate on refuges. Our anger is purely with the way we are treated by our own federal government and by corporations.

So if you need to leave your homeland because of reasons?

Let's continue what was started in 1492

LET THE REFUGES COME AND BE PROSPEROUS. JUST LIKE YOUR ANCESTORS.

The great turtle island is big enough to hold us all on her back. Boarders should never exist.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Borders*

Boarders can be cool people

[–] thisbenzingring@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 2 years ago

If that's the only flaw in my English, I will call that a win!

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Didn’t the natives immigrate from Asia?

[–] Tbird83ii@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

Correct. Between 30,000 and 16,000 years ago, humans came to North America from Siberia..

At least as far as we know so far.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (7 children)

They found a footprint in San Diego, back in the late 90s that shows that people were here at least ~~120,000~~ 20,000 years ago or some shit.

[–] JustZ@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Oldest found in North America is 23,000 years old.

A 120,000 year old footprint was found in Saudi Arabia, obviously that is the cradle of civilization, as far as we know.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Shit I conflated the two, thanks.

Well yeah but so long ago that I wouldn't really count that as immigration in modern sense. Since technically everyone is immigrant except the bery first humans that existed. And if you really want to stretch it far we all immigrated from the sea before we even were humans

[–] PugJesus@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago

Alright, every last one of us who isn't of 'pure blood' in the US comes from immigrants.

[–] lledrtx@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Everyone originates from Africa.

[–] ryathal@sh.itjust.works 0 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (2 children)

To be fair the UK hasn't invaded many countries that still exist. Their creation of new countries is responsible for about half of global conflicts, but the didn't invade those countries.

[–] firewood010@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 years ago

They are the descendants of those broken countries tho

[–] supercriticalcheese@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

First sentence is pretty much invalidated by your second one.

[–] PatFussy@lemm.ee 59 points 2 years ago (1 children)
[–] Daft_ish@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

You really Invalided their point right there 👍

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 27 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Britain doing the heavy lifting on that 98% claim.

The Septics are a right bunch of slackers.

[–] Everythingispenguins@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago (2 children)

The British empire at its height covered 35.5 million sq km (13.7 million sq mi). Which is 24% of the Earth's total land. To compare the moon is 37.9 million sq km (14.6 million sq mi). Making the moon just ~7% larger than the British empire.

[–] Tagger@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

I reckon if we really go for it we could make up that 7%.

[–] Guest_User@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Add in the shipping lanes they controlled

[–] sin_free_for_00_days@sopuli.xyz 19 points 2 years ago (6 children)

I've never heard anyone from France bitch about immigrants. Or Norway. Or Germany. Or Italy. Or Thailand. Or.... this is just an idiotic take.

[–] AngryPancake@sh.itjust.works 30 points 2 years ago

About 1.5mio. people in Germany were demonstrating in the last two weeks against a political party who among other things have deportation of immigrants on their agenda. They have a shockingly high amount of votes.

[–] Amaltheamannen@lemmy.ml 17 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Anti immigration far right populist parties have become increasingly popular in almost every European country, often becoming the second largest party even.

[–] sizzler@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Mcbain "that's the joke"

[–] CodeName@infosec.pub 12 points 2 years ago

I guess because you haven't heard about it it doesn't exist. What do you think is driving the right wing resurgence across Europe over the past decade?

https://foreignpolicy.com/2023/11/01/the-far-right-is-winning-europes-immigration-debate/

And even if you've never heard your wide circle of international friends complain about immigration, it doesn't mean the point of the image is invalid. It should be World Law ^TM^ that anyone coming from a former colony of a country should have instant citizenship in said country.

[–] killeronthecorner@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago

The NR went from 7 seats to 89 in the last French election. If you aren't hearing it then maybe you aren't listening.

[–] el_bhm@lemm.ee 4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Meanwhile Putin machine keeps throwing immigrants over Polish, Finland and Baltics borders.

As well as creating chaos in Africa via proxy military companies.

I don't think the hypocrisy is the worst part.

I think it's the raping.

[–] TehBamski@lemmy.world 10 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I read that last part as Norm Macdonald and it made it a whole lot funnier.

[–] Kushan@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

I'm glad you got the reference!

[–] Dragon@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 years ago

He rapes but he saves

It's not exactly the same people doing both of those things though.

[–] Toneswirly@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago

Not to mention that our economies boom off the backs of cheap labor and exploitation abroad. Then we get shocked pikachu face when the lands we've raped and pillage become so inhospitable that refugees come pouring in to our countries.

[–] lugal@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Some British nationalists do adopt the rhetoric of indigenous peoples. It is wild

[–] EnderMB@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

I fucking lost it during that David Lammy interview on LBC where that person tried to convince him that he could never truly be British because he's not from Anglo-Saxon heritage.

He dealt with it really well, but it opened my eyes to just how insane some people are in this country. We're literally a country that's invaded and been invaded for centuries, and our culture is a mix of the cultures of several nations.

[–] Gigan@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Hey I don't like the invading either

[–] Suavevillain@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago
