I binged it on Netflix and am now starting on the new third season.

Between Alan Tudyk being hilarious virtually every second he's onscreen and the large amount of indigenous representation without ever doing the "mystical Indian" bullshit, I'm really enjoying the show.

Yep it’s brilliant. Alan gets to show off, and it is generally really touching

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 11 points 8 months ago

Touching is a good word. The first episode of this season where he burst out crying in Asta's room was simultaneously very funny and very touching. "I tried to murder you, but I cannot do it."

It really doesn't spoil anything.

Any Alan Tudyk role, I jump right on in! Its corny at times, but enjoyable.

My hope is 1 more season, because beyond that it turns into "big bang theory" levels of seasons 🙃

Okay, but how's this for a spinoff? Every episode is just the sheriff giving a long monologue about whatever happens to be on his mind.

[-] bravesilvernest@lemmy.ml 5 points 8 months ago

This would probably be a good set of 10m episodes 🤣

[-] Apeman42@lemmy.world 4 points 8 months ago

Giving sheriff an in-character youtube channel where he kind of recapped the previous episodes but went off on tangents would be perfect between-season content.

I haven't read them yet, but there is a lot of source material to work with.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

I started reading them. They're fun, but it's clear how much Alan Tudyk made the role his own.

A weekly podcast during the off-season in which he and one other character from the show live-comment on each episode of the previous season, but then the sheriff ends up on legendary tangents the moment he shows up in an episode, starting by telling the guest to shut up because they just got to the good part.

Also, a blog filled with unfinished thoughts because he couldn't be bothered or entries that start with one tone and end with a completely different one because the deputy was assigned to finish. Call it Big Black Law Blog.

I love it but nobody else around me IRL has a clue about it. Season 2 had some lows but genuinely one of the best shows around.

I'm going to start watching from the beginning with my wife and hope she enjoys it too!

Thanks for the recommendation! I saw there is a third season but never seen (or heard of) the show before that.

[-] aaaa@lemmy.world 8 points 8 months ago

I also just recently watched this, and I love it. The premise sounds terrible, but I have given up on second guessing Alan Tudyk roles. He just doesn't miss.

Also Sahar deserves a shout out. She does a fantastic job of walking the line between absolutely insufferable and endearing.

Does the cringe awkward comedy ever stop?

I love Alan Tudyk and was extremely excited for this show hitting Netflix but the first episode was uncomfortable and then the second didn't let up on that so I stopped a minute into it.

[-] littlebluespark@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

Not really sure how you could "love Alan Tudyk" and be this disinterested in his comedic style. In that vein, was K-2SO unfunny to you?

[-] GlitterInfection@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago

It's not his style, it's the show's writing. He was fantastic. But I can't do cringe awkward comedy. Shows like Seinfeld or the Office hurt to watch even though I recognize they're good shows.

[-] littlebluespark@lemmy.world 1 points 8 months ago

All due respect, that sounds like a preference rather than a critique.

[-] GlitterInfection@lemmy.world 0 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

I didn't intend to critique the show.

we JUST started this last night! And only watched S1E1 - it looks amazing based on that first episode.

[-] nokturne213@sopuli.xyz 5 points 8 months ago

I was contemplating peacock for a month to watch this. But since it is on Netflix now I started it last night. Only one episode in so far.

[-] benfulton@hoosier.social 5 points 8 months ago

@FlyingSquid Watched the first season but the awkwardness was beyond me. As a gen-xer I prefer ironic detachment 😃

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 8 points 8 months ago

I'm also a Gen-Xer, but I really enjoyed the awkwardness.

[-] PlasmaDistortion@lemm.ee 4 points 8 months ago

Honestly I find it hilarious and can’t wait for the rest of season 3 to come out.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

It's already out. We're 2 episodes in!

[-] dutchkimble@lemy.lol 4 points 8 months ago

I'd have never known season 2 was made and now 3, Thank you

[-] mPony@kbin.social 3 points 8 months ago

Resident Alien is a delight. So much fun.

[-] june@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

I’m catching up with my partner rn. Working on S2 and it’s great

[-] Apeman42@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

I binged the first two seasons the weekend after Netflix got it, and I love it. "This is some bullshit" is how I'm describing everything now.

Where does season 3 air/stream? I don't think Netflix has it.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

SyFy... although I just sail the high seas.
