Releases for €60 in my local currency, so far it seems on a technical level it's done well enough, FPS seems stable except during cutscenes (oddly enough, a lot report dropping to 30 or lower).

Sadly have not found information yet about FoV or keybindings.

Man reading through comments here... I'm getting real burned out on the constant negativity in the gaming community. It's always been negative, but ffs we used to have fun too. Now a new game drops, no issues I've heard so far and it's still only negative stuff. Isn't anyone excited?

On a HZD post, I remember saying years ago I can't wait because I'd love to play it on keyboard and mouse!

Got downvoted like hell and someone replied, "you can't play it with a mouse and keyboard".

I was completely baffled as to what's going on.

[-] scrubbles@poptalk.scrubbles.tech 8 points 7 months ago

So many gatekeepers. And worse when you're having fun doing something that they don't approve of.

[-] Kinakuta@lemmy.world 7 points 7 months ago

Yeah that's baffling, I thought it was better with KB/M, it's easier to target the machine's subsystems with a mouse! Even compared with auto-aim on the gamepad.

Isn't anyone excited?

The excited people are playing the game right now instead of shit posting on Lemmy. :D

Man I feel the same way, the internet can be so negative sometimes. People just need to relax. I've been waiting to play ever since it came out on PS5 and I held out for the PC version. Now it's finally here and I am super excited for it to be honest. It's a good port by Nixxes and runs like a dream on my PC. The game looks insanely good too, so it's a technical marvel in my book.

See, that's awesome to hear, and that makes me happy. I personally haven't played them but my SO is super excited, and I think I'm going to pick it up for them. Thanks for being excited about games!

Hope they enjoy it 🌻

Feels to me like some folks just want to give due warning to help others from throwing money away. I don't think most are being negative for negativity's sake - but I may just be too optimistic about the state of the discourse.

New games without bugs are always a good thing.

I'm not excited just because my backlog is huge, I maybe play this in about ten years when it has gotten a bit smaller.

That's the problem, there are too many games and so little time. But I agree, this doesn't seem to be the next unfinished buginfested piece of shit but actually worth it's money.

If you would now excuse me, I've got to get back to Arx Fatalis. Backlog...

You can change FoV and keybindings. There's a lot of customization options in general. For example, it's possible to switch between pickup+animation, pickup and Auto-collect. Lots of graphic customization too. It's lightyears ahead of the launch of Zero Dawn (which isn't hard tbf). Still, 60€ for a few years old game is annoying

If you own the first one, just play through it again.

Is it basically the same thing?

[-] Brokkr@lemmy.world 27 points 7 months ago

Game play is better, but similar. The improvements make it a fun challenge to take down the monsters piece by piece. I didn't enjoy the game play of the first nearly as much.

The continuation of the story is good, but not as intriguing as the first. If story in the first was 10/10, this one is 8/10; so still pretty good.

If you enjoyed the first one, this one is definitely worth playing. There will also be a 3rd and having played the 2nd game will be required to understand the story.

[-] TheSambassador@lemmy.world 9 points 7 months ago

The world of the first one is 10/10, and maybe the "story" is fine, but the actual writing in the first was awful. The sidequests were especially bad.

[-] Brokkr@lemmy.world 4 points 7 months ago

The story of the present day in the first was bland. The story of the past was interesting to explore. I agree about the side quests, I skipped them entirely in the first, but some of the side quests in the 2nd were worth doing. The 2nd does a good job of listing which are side-story and which are side-fetch quests.

[-] Moneo@lemmy.world 4 points 7 months ago

Thank youuuuu.

The world building was solid enough to distract me from the writing for a long time. This probably sounds like a nitpick but here goes.

The part where the scientists are explaining GAIA (whatever its called) was so badly done I lost all suspension of disbelief. Like why did these people spend, presumably hours of their precious time, creating an Apple style keynote speech explaining their plan to save the world. Like maybe just focus on saving the world? And one of them has a valley accent. No disrespect to valley accents but if you're trying to convince me I'm listening to one of the smartest people in the world it's definitely a bad choice to give them an accent attributed to ignorant white girls.

The place where it broke down for me was a moment where, as part of the main quest of the game, a character asks Aloy to help with a very emotionally personal request (help figure out what happened to his dead sister), and Aloy starts off with "that's your war, not mine" and is super reluctant. Then, not 2 minutes later, I talk to a side quest NPC asking for help investigating a stolen heirloom, and Aloy is like "yeah sure, I have time for that and also maybe I could run and get your grocieries and do your dry cleaning and whatever else no problem."

[-] Renacles@lemmy.world 2 points 7 months ago

I guess I'll get it once the price goes down, the first one was fun.

[-] dlpkl@lemmy.world 4 points 7 months ago

Eh. You can ride a lot more machines this time and the biomes are much more diverse. Other than that, it kinda lost its mystique when the plot twist was revealed at the end of the first game, the second game feels like it could (should) have been the final chapter in the first game. Still, graphics and art style are amazing and honestly worth playing just for that alone.

[-] thisbenzingring@lemmy.sdf.org -1 points 7 months ago

I own the first one and cant really find a drive to play it. IDK the main character just gives me uncanny valley repulsiveness. I made it about 8 hours in.

[-] citrusface@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago

I played it for like 108 hours and it's one of my top 5 games of all time. Tomato tomato.

Digital Foundry review for those that are interested. They generally give it the thumbs up. Not much in the way of new graphical features over the PS5, but just the higher resolution and DLSS/FSR makes a big difference. I've got it waiting on my computer to try out tonight. I loved Zero Dawn, so I'm really excited to finally play this

For a game that has been released since February 2022 to only have bullshots on their steam page... Edit: Even the trailer they have on the steam page for the pc release has barely 10 seconds of real gameplay in 1:30 minutes, they really dont believe in people buying the game for what it is.

[-] echo64@lemmy.world 6 points 7 months ago

The trailer is all ingame content. The game has been out for a year, it's not that hard to check. None of it is a bullshot.

[-] summerof69@lemm.ee 1 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

I haven't finished it on my PS5, and I could essentially buy it twice. But Sony blocks save transfers 🤷‍♂️

[-] dlpkl@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago

I remember back in the day copying my PS3 save file for fallout 3 and then running it through a hex editor so that I could pick up where I leftoff on PC lol

[-] lorty@lemmy.ml 1 points 7 months ago

Did the same for Skyrim. It wasn't even that time consuming.
