Yeah, this sounds like a win. If we replace the word "snack" with "smokes" then it's a definite win.

I have a convenience store ¾ of a mile from my house. I've made the deal with myself that if I just have to give in to that snack attack, then I have to walk there and back for it... it's not a perfect solution, but it has helped slow down the frequency of me actually snacking.

We have a thing called GoPuff where I live. It's a delivery service like Door Dash or InstaCart but they only deliver snacks, drinks, frozen food, and basic household stuff.

The internal debate I always have about using them is that I really just want one snack but you have to order at least $12 worth of stuff or else they charge a "small order fee" where you basically pay the same amount anyway.

I know once all of those snacks are there in front of me I'll end up eating them all and get a stomach ache, but I also really don't want to get dressed and go all the way back to the store again...

It's maddening 😅

I generally avoid quick delivery apps because I don't want another human being trying to beat the traffic just to keep their delivery score high.

Instead I opt for grocery delivery where I can give a large order a day or two in advance and they don't have target of 15 minutes to beat.

Unfortunately, food delivery apps are exceptions to this but I use them like once or twice a month at most.

15 minutes? I've never used any delivery app where they had to be there in 15 minutes! Usually the "estimated delivery time" is like 45 minutes but there's no official set time they have to beat. They all seem to kind of take their time honestly lol

There's such a company in Amsterdam that promises to get it to you in under 15 minutes, but you don't see them that much any more, at least I haven't in the past year or so. I think they've been regulated out of the market. It's rare you can't do your own shopping more quickly, too.

Postmates is kinda the same but it's not limited to anything; they just go wherever and grab whatever for you and bring it to you. You can get snacks, meals, even cigarettes and alcohol. I've only ever been a delivery person through 'em though. Never actually utilized the service myself lol

[-] MrJameGumb@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago

We have Postmates here too but hardly anywhere uses it anymore. I think it's mostly used as a courier service for businesses now as far as I know.

It wouldn't surprise me if their range of availability hasn't changed. It was pretty small. I stopped doing it because it only had a range of like 5 miles where I would be visible to people ordering. Didn't feel like I was getting as much as I could if the range was further away considering I have a car and wasn't doing things on foot/bike.

[-] MashedTech@lemmy.world 10 points 5 months ago

Same, but it is the reason I do it as well. Gotta unlearn this behavior

[-] tweeks@feddit.nl 4 points 5 months ago

The issue with me is that I then replace the snack with two or three sandwiches at home, which mostly contains more calories than the snack I was yearning for..

[-] PunnyName@lemmy.world 8 points 5 months ago

Trail mix is a nice alternative. I should keep it around when I want a snacky snack.

[-] Jiggle_Physics@lemmy.world 8 points 5 months ago

Trail mix is calorie dense and, if you aren't careful, can contain a lot of sugar.

[-] jose1324@lemmy.world 6 points 5 months ago

Trail mix is horrible alternative. It has a shit ton of calories for what you snack

[-] PunnyName@lemmy.world 0 points 5 months ago

I just dole out a half cup, measured in grams at ~75g, when I feel snackish. While calorie dense, there's a number of good fats, protein, vitamins / minerals. Compared to say cookies or chips, etc.

[-] jose1324@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago

Lmao that's like 350 kcal. That's a whole breakfast for me

[-] Faresh@lemmy.ml 7 points 5 months ago

In the past I ate a lot of unhealthy snacks, but now I just eat some nuts if I begin yearning for snacks. Also sometimes dried fruit (which probably isn't healthy in big amounts, but not as bad as cookies, chocolate or chips).

[-] intensely_human@lemm.ee 4 points 5 months ago

Sometimes my cravings for junk food are just my body saying it needs salt. Sometimes I just eat a little salt on its own.

[-] Gabu@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago

What do if I can easily consume 1kg of assorted nuts in a single sitting? Almonds in particular are impossible to stop eating. (Which is why I don't buy them in quantities above 100g).

[-] onion_dude@feddit.uk 1 points 5 months ago

I need some kind of /RemindMe bot in case it turns out there's an answer to this??
