No one cares about Ubuntu touch anymore. If anything, we care about post market os or Debian.

Explain why post market os and Mobian are better.

Because they are not Ubuntu /s

True I feel like some people in the Linux community may mistakenly think that canonical is the one running the show when it was ubports who resumed development.

Because they have bigger teams and are using regular Linux tech.

Fair enough, I will have to research the other distros.

What is the install base of Ubuntu Touch even? Are those numbers somewhere?

[-] Beaver@lemmy.ca 1 points 6 months ago

I would say for the pixel 3axl it is 118mb. You can check by downloading the ubports installer. Also the apps are pretty small in size like 10<1 mbs or under.

Sorry, I meant install base meaning users. How many devices have downloaded or installed it?

[-] Beaver@lemmy.ca 4 points 6 months ago

According to the number of installs on the openstore Ubuntu Touch has had 434,650 installs.

So I’m guessing there are likely to be thousands of users in the wild.

I checked the numbers within the app.

However I wasn’t able to find them on the website.

Here are stats for the app categories:

Edit: I took a screenshot for you

I’d rather get a proper desktop Linux GUI, as it is on Windows

Better yet, an adaptive GTK4 app. Hit two birds with one strone.

How well does the current linux app for Proton VPN work on mobile?
It might also be easier to get an ARM64 version than a completely separate app.

Maybe package that for Ubuntu Touch, however their packaging works.

It works ok on android. On linux desktop, proton vpn app is one of the things keeping me from recommending proton vpn.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.
