The White House on Tuesday indicated an Israeli strike that killed dozens of Palestinians in Rafah did not cross a “red line” that would lead to a change in U.S. policy.

Multiple administration officials in press briefings on Tuesday described the images out of Rafah as “heart-breaking,” “tragic,” and “horrific.” But there was no sign of an impending policy change as a result because it was an airstrike and not a major ground operation.

There is no red line. Netanyahu could literally kill and eat a Palestinian baby on live TV and nothing would change.

[-] Silverseren@kbin.social 36 points 5 months ago

Especially since we know there are tanks and IDF in Rafah itself as of this weekend. So even the claim that it was "only an airstrike, not a ground invasion" seems like a flat out lie.

[-] Brunbrun6766@lemmy.world 14 points 5 months ago

The article I read was shelling from tanks IN Rafah so, it is a ground strike already

[-] Maggoty@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

They got out a statement saying they "can't verify the presence of tanks inside Rafah". Which considering the sheer amount of OSINT saying they're there makes me mad. Does he think we're stupid or we're blind?

Biden would say he won’t send ketchup, but then send it anyways.

No condiments for the next baby (okay maybe mayo but come on)

Biden is working hard to lose in November and I don't understand it at all.

When did Israeli support become the most important thing in the world?

[-] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 30 points 5 months ago

I'm at a loss here. The consequences if he loses are unthinkable. Just denounce Israel and their actions for the love of god. I know it's a complex issue, but we can't afford complexity at this stage of the game. Walk it back in December.

[-] YtA4QCam2A9j7EfTgHrH@infosec.pub 26 points 5 months ago

It really isn’t a complex issue. They are committing genocide. The Palestinians have faced ethnic cleansing since 1948. Israel is an ethno state and ethno states are bad.

This election should be a layup but Biden is going to fuck us all because he inexplicably loves Netanyahu. I’m voting for the asshole enthusiastically, because the republicans literally tried a coup last time, but I’m going to be pissed off at Biden for losing.

Walk it back in December.

Or, you know, don't. That works too.

[-] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 1 points 5 months ago

Shh, don't tell him that! Think about what happens when Biden reads our comments! What then, Zehzin?!?!

[-] ZombiFrancis@sh.itjust.works 2 points 5 months ago

He knows he won't live to see the consequences and if he can trigger the End Of Times Zionists believe in, why not?

[-] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 16 points 5 months ago

He's a self proclaimed zionist https://www.reuters.com/world/us/i-am-zionist-how-joe-bidens-lifelong-bond-with-israel-shapes-war-policy-2023-10-21/

He seems to think anything they do is just fine and for the cause no matter how much it hurts others, the USA or even the image of Israel...

[-] brandon@lemmy.world 6 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

A large segment of the US population is still extremely anti-Muslim and think they are all terrorists, especially those at the center and center-right. I’ve met numerous supposed “centrist democrats” that think we should turn every Muslim country to glass.

[-] FlowVoid@lemmy.world 4 points 5 months ago

When did Israeli support become the most important thing in the world?

It never was. Israel is pretty much the last thing on most voters' minds.

[-] sloppy_diffuser@sh.itjust.works 2 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Follow the money. Israel is an R&D hub with large investments from American companies. We also don't want their tech going to an unfriendly nation.

I work in R&D and we occasionally acquire startups from Israel. We literally have someone employed in/from Israel scouting the startup scene for acquisitions and joint ventures.

Biden is unsuccessfully trying to make everyone happy in a situation where that is impossible. Its very clear its profits over people when forced into choice.

[-] brbposting@sh.itjust.works 2 points 5 months ago

Are there more dollars being contributed to his campaign from pro-Israel donors than anti-genocide donors?

[-] Maggoty@lemmy.world 6 points 5 months ago

There's actually been articles about that. Apparently it's super important to the "mega" donors, but small to mid sized donors are writing letters telling him to stop support. Combined with polling in the majority among his base it paints a mostly clear picture that those Mega Donors are who he listens to. The only thing I haven't seen is battleground state polling. It's entirely possible their strategy depends on a certain state and that state considers supporting Israel a necessity.

What kind of a mind fuck would it be if Biden was the first modern democrat to win without the popular vote?

[-] Facebones@reddthat.com 3 points 5 months ago

Israeli PACs are currently pumping EVERY dollar available into every politician available and aren't gonna stop until every Palestinian is dead.

[-] snooggums@midwest.social 31 points 5 months ago

It is extremely disappointing that the Biden administration continues to be complicit in genocide by not cutting off all military aid to Israel until they agree to and follow through with a ceasefire.

[-] DarkNightoftheSoul@mander.xyz 11 points 5 months ago

I am reminded of bugs bunny inciting yosemite sam to step over line after line, except this time it's not funny, they're working together, and palestine's the one to fall off the ledge

[-] taiyang@lemmy.world 10 points 5 months ago

I wonder how many other US allies could get away with genecide and we'd look the other way? The list is probably pretty long, we're weirdly cool with genecide.

Yet I remember a time we threw a hissy fit over France, to the point people wanted to call French Fries "Freedom Fries." Wasn't that because we were killing people in Iraq and they called us out on it? I think our country might just be pro-genecide.

[-] Zehzin@lemmy.world 8 points 5 months ago

Man how fucked up do you have to be that France calls you out on killing people.

[-] athos77@kbin.social 5 points 5 months ago

quelle surprise ....

[-] ImADifferentBird@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 5 months ago

If that didn't cross the line, one wonders what would.

[-] Maggoty@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago

Right? Biden just greenlit bombing the refugee tent cities. This is about to get really bad. You don't need 2,000 pound bombs to kill a lot of people in tents.

[-] Maggoty@lemmy.world 4 points 5 months ago

Thanks for putting it into a headline, but like, we knew.

[-] Facebones@reddthat.com 3 points 5 months ago

Right. Nobody at any point thought Rafah would be a "red line." Nobody thinks there IS a red line.

[-] ohlaph@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

And red paint isn't red...
