I imagine it'd be the same as printing of a copy of the Mona Lisa and putting it up on your wall for your own viewing pleasure. Completely legal.

Where as printing it off and then charging other people to see it would be illegal.

It does make for a funny story, but yh, probably wouldn't give it to the GF!

My dad always likes to tell us about the Christmas when my uncle bought my aunt a tin opener (a good one!) for Christmas, she was apparently rather unimpressed but the story has given years worth of good laughs.

I also remember when my dad bought a holiday in New York for my mum and himself for Christmas, but the tickets were in a small envelope right at the bottom of a HUGE box filled with packing peanuts.

What terrible/joke presents can you think of that would be a good laugh on Christmas day?

I think some people do fucked up shit regardless of what they're taught and it requires a solution that's slightly more complex than "just teach the kids right and wrong".

Whilst I strongly encourage good parenting, you could have the most fucked up parents imaginable and still easily be able to understand why rape and murder isn't a benefit to society.

[-] 13esq@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

imo the solution is just not to do anything sketchy, and teach younger people what's right and wrong, so that the problem can get solved with a better society in the future

Ah yes, why didn't my parents or their grandparents think to teach their kids that rape and murder is wrong!? It's all so clear now!!!

I'm cool if I can only faintly smell it, but when someone puts on too much it's eye watering and as you say, they'd be better without.

[-] 13esq@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Yep, if I was homeless with no prospects, especially in winter, a prison would be looking pretty attractive.

Whatever the source, I don't think it's surprising that women are a lot more selective than men, it makes a huge amount of sense in evolutionary terms.

And given that a small percentage of men are getting chased by the majority of women, it's unsurprising that they're used to getting screwed over, causing all men to get cast with the same aspersion.

I know it's unrelated to the thread, but I'd personally never go to a country that doesn't treat, women, gays, apostates etc as equals, I think these countries are absolutely terrible and I'm not fooled by them having "show cities" where they pretend that they're not that way.

A country that still has a medieval mindset in the third millennium is not getting a penny from me.

Sometimes prophecies are self fullfilling, treat a man like the worst example of the gender he represents, through no fault of his own and you might find he behaves less than appropriately.

I'm not saying that excuses the behaviour, but if women looked at me and immediately thought "potential rapist/murderer" I can't say that wouldn't upset me and possibly cause me to act less than amicably.

I mean what the fuck am I supposed to do? Somehow talk the worst male scum out of their depraved behaviour, or somehow try to convince all women that "I'm one of the good ones"? That's never going to happen no matter how hard I try.

We all need to be realistic and keep things in perspective. It's not OK to treat people as the worst of the people they identify with, it's no better than the "all Muslims are terrorists" mentality.

I'm not being facetious, but how many countries that were part of the Arab spring are now not effectively Islamic dictatorships?

It was a great thing at the time but it seems to me to have not paid off.

What's the crime? Honest question, I'm not being facetious.

Presumably (if I had access to Putin) I could phone him and ask him to not escalate the war. Why is that illegal?

I understand why he is unpopular with many people and to be frank I have quite the distaste for all billionaires, but he is not stupid which is something that is often claimed.

No-one becomes a multi-billionaire due to a lack of intelligence or common sense.

Musk knows exactly what he is doing, he didn't buy Twitter to make a quick buck, he bought it derail it and he's done that quite thoroughly. $35bn to Musk is pocket change.

I mean I get it, if I was a big Twitter user and a new CEO made it something that I now hated, I'd think the bloke was an idiot, but that is actually just a difference of opinion and has nothing to do with intelligence.

In short, whilst Musk is clearly very unpopular with some people and I can understand why, the man clearly is not an idiot. Some people really don't like it when you tell them that.

Edit: 14 downvotes in 30 minutes lol, I can't say I wasn't expecting this but judging by the replies so far, I think it just proves that it's an unpopular opinion!

I'm looking for inspiration! She wants to go on a holiday at some point during the year as a gift, but I really want to give her something on Christmas day.

The weather has finally warmed up here and now there plenty of super annoying houseflies. They're way to fast to swat and have an annoying habit of landing on you.

I've tried Google's suggestion of water/vinegar and a bit of dish soap in a bottle, but they don't seem to go for it at all.

I'm up for trying anything, please make suggestions!

Edit: Thank you to all for your suggestions. So far I've tried the idea of spraying them with surface cleaner which appears to work well

It's already well known at work that I don't just not like gore videos but that I hate them and actively avoid them.

A colleague sent me a video of a man being murdered by axe via WhatsApp to my personal phone on my lunch break. Before I opened it I asked if it was a video that I would want to see (because I know what sort of character he is), he implied it was fine.

Despite my suspicion I took his word and watched it. I immediately scolded him, he then made light of the situation, I told him that it wasn't funny and that if it ever happened again I would be making a formal complaint immediately.

A couple of minutes later, another colleague came in to the mess room, the guy that sent the video made fun of me for not liking the video in front of them. I told him that he was making fun of me and that I wasn't ok with that.

Do I have the right to not be sent murder videos? What would an employer do if I made a complaint?

It wasn't a very long game but I had 0 inaccuracies, 0 mistakes and 0 blunders!

The London is the first opening I've learnt, I've been practicing it for a while now and I'm feeling like I'm getting good at it.

Maybe it's time to learn another opening. Any suggestions?

Hi,

I already have a good tool kit, drill, needle files etc, so I'm mainly looking for a kit that doesn't needlessly double up on tools that I already have but I'm here for your advice so I'll look at anything you recommend.

Ideally the kit would have enough bits and pieces that I could store it and keep it for future punctures also, but I could just order a multiple of single use kits if that is what you'd recommend.

Please let me know! Thanks.
