It very much depends on what you are looking for.

Matrix is pretty good, but hosting synapse (Matrix server) is resource consuming. XMPP is very nice I think but I have not tried voice there. Nextcloud Talk requires to have everyone registered on the Nextcloud instance and also needs somewhat beefy HW. Mattermost seems to be professional level stuff, did not try. I don't really know about other alternatives, that's why I am waiting for a proper voice chat in Stoat so that I can test it.

So far, Stoat seems to be THE alternative to discord. For gaming atm I'm still using discord (because I would be the one moving everyone, and I won't do it with a proper alternative. For gaming that is. Discord is one of the last proprietary chats I use.)

Garuda dr46nized has a pretty fetch by default on its console.

True! That's why you should self-host. And still better than discord in that regard, where any admin can look at any of your chats.

But yes, Stoat is not really a privacy focused chat. I see it only as an alternative to discord for gaming voice chat.

Actually, I always forget but nowadays Steam has a pretty decent voice chat too. 🤔

Because it's litteraly a copy of discord.

I have updated the OP, I don't really know how it appears in crossposts.

I don't know what you mean by that.

I just wanted to point out that people hosting it (the server) on e.g. docker should update their compose file.

The fdroid app seems to be regularly updated and valid for android ≥ 7.0

It's a potential FOSS replacement for discord, nice to move your friends who are hooked on discord but to lazy to try matrix/xmpp/whatever (once stoat has covered the voice channels). Appart from that no, I don't think so.

Edited for clarification.

Yes it needs extra steps if you are selfhosting and is not supported in the third party app clerotri for example. It seemed an hassle enough that I did not try it on my selfhosted instance.

Hmm indeed, somehow I did not see it this morning. For anyone curious it's on the izzyondroid repo. Updated 2 months ago.

Ah! If you have never heard of it I can tell you: it's the foss, self-hostable equivalent of Discord. Except we are still waiting for the voice channels.

Well I am disappointed that it's not updated (or at all under Stoat name) on the F-droid repo. But no, since the voice chat is not there yet, you don't need to care at the moment. :]

Stoat (formerly known as Revolt) is a selfhostable, FOSS replacement for discord [Group chats and voice channels you can join any time].

Cool new name, however not as easy to use in other languages.

Voice chat is stil not officialy implemented.

Self-hosting there. Apparently nothing to do for you if you had already hosted before the name change.

The Android app has unfortunately disappeared (not been updated) on F-droid.

Edit: added short description for clarification

Find My Device

Project 'Nulide/findmydevice' was moved to 'fmd-foss/fmd-android'. Please update any links and bookmarks that may still have the old path.

Find My Device has moved (since V0.10, V0.12 as of writing) and if you are hosting the server yourself, you might have missed that and might be locked out of the website interface.

If you have autoupdates on FDroid for your client, maybe you did not see the info.

The post was a meme depicting a "lib" raging over Molotov-Ribbentrop pact in the top and quietly justifying Nazi collaboration of the Baltics/Ukraine/Finlande/Ukrainian insurgent army.

Text below was: "Average lib take when communism is involved".

To Which I answered:

" 'Ok so now its legitimate to invade these countries!' Average tankie."

Since .ml-users consider anyone outside their community a "lib" I felt I had the right to answer.

Anyway, my comment triggered an honest discussion AND was genuinely in the style of the post, so no I don't think it's fair.

For the curious, link to the post.

I'm working for a relatively big company. Not long ago, our boss sent a mail around asking for feedback on "AI". I sent an answer saying the usual: you can't trust LLM on basic searches so it's useless if you have to double check, my short 2/3 bad experiences with it, and why I am concerned about water and energy usage as well as privacy problems with a nice link for each point of articles I found here (thank You people!).

But to be honest, I am still curious about this LLM thing and every once in a while try to give the thing a chance... but damn. This is really shit! Our work provides access to many different LLM models but I pretty much have had issues with all of them.

Copilot now hangs and crashes if I type more than 8 words in the prompt before sending the damn prompt. Once I manage to send the prompt and get a (relatively decent!) answer, the program crashes if I scroll too fast in the window. I mean... lmfao

In the beginning (months ago) Copilot was working in our environment but I anyway could not get what I wanted out of it, apparently my task required to much processing (making a powerpoint out of a big pdf).

With Claude V4, we are supposed to be able to upload files, but it works like one third of the time. Then I ask it some very simple thing like e.g. "how to write bold in markdown" and the thing gave me two blank responses and the thread was just fucked from here. Ok?

Previous version of Claude (V3.7 Sonnet) I was trying to get help on some basic scripts. First simple prompt, 10 words including "Hello" (Yeah I am the kind of person who writes "hello" to LLM, whatyougonnado?), answer goes full stroke with sentence parts, fucked up punctuation, repeats and ends up repeating the question. I found this one really funny.

I don't remember what exactly but I also had similar kind of troubles with gemini.

So yeah, just saying "ok, fuck ai", but to me this is genuinely shitty on top of all the other problems it includes. How can this be pushed so much in the corpo world? For real?

Dear community,

Maybe the answer lies in front of my eyes, I am good at not seeing this kind of things but... Is it nornal that my jellyfin recognizes en.hi subtitles as Hindi instead of English? The subtitles come from bazarr and the related github issue I found is closed: https://github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin/issues/4291 Did I miss something?

EDIT: Bazarr problem: Somehow it was completely missing the language tag "en". My fix is to "remove HI tags" in bazarr. It is a per file operation though.
