My mental image the solution of your last paragraph is a guy and their counsoler just chatting outside chopping firewood or other simple/quiet lawn work.

Then his stunt double sucks at the game too.

I call everyone nerds, and yall may think, not everyone is a nerd. Wrong.

Remember that jock from the football team, ask them about about sports betting. You will get a better lesson in sports statistics than you would by taking a college class. Everyone is a nerd about something.

The GrapheneOS team makes their hardware security requirments very clear.

Its up to the hardware manufactures to include a few additional components used for securely storing keys, so far Google Pixles are the only consistent line of products that do so.

The channel Economics Explained actually covered Denmark on this weeks video essay. The impression that I got is that they really have their shit together, even these planned retirement age changes are expected to be gradual so people can plan for it.

Your probably right, 2019 is right around the cut-off when electronic shit started completely overtaking the last 75 years of car improvments. I was given a loaner recently while recall work was being done (Subaru) and the loaner car just felt wrong. Tactile feedback is very important because if your flipping through touch screen menus, your not looking at the road.

Then enact a form of ranked-choice or instant-runnoff, or quit complaining.

Obviously I know how they work, I saw it in a documentary about Airplanes. The Otto pilot inflates at the press of a button (or is inflated manually) and they fly the plane.

We have auto-pilots for planes, those are mostly fine. People are the problem. I dont trust humans to operate motor vehicles in 2 dimensions, let alone 3...

[Internet slap] USE A PASSWORD MANAGER!

IT would prefer you just remember it, but if you do need to write it down... Try to put some effort into encrypting/hiding it.

KeePass is free, ask your companies nerd herd about it.

Question: What do people in this community recommend for self-hosted instant messanger projects? I host a VOIP service for my nerd herd and due to recent events i'm attempting to migrate out groups chats off of the major platforms (Discord, Google chats, Slack, Etc.) as well.

There are a few notes that were requested/requirements.

  • Self-hosted
  • Supports images
  • Has a decent mobile app
  • Encrypted communication
  • Expected load ~25 users.

I am doing my own digging but wanted to hear the communites opinions on some of the projects that came up in searches.

  • IRC/XMPP - dosent really work for the request but is a classic, so I feel had to mention it.
  • Rocket.Chat - seems like the best option so far, but I was having trouble finding current reviews, and its licensing is a bit much.
  • Matrix also is close to checking all the boxes, but it wasnt clear how it works on mobile (Element seemed like the mobile app that was recommended).
  • Revolt was high on the SEO results but most of the discussion around it was about drama with the maintainers (that is what prompted this post, i'm fishing for more current opinions).
  • Zulip seemed similar to Rocket.Chat, but more expensive if we had to get a license.

I appreciate peoples opinions and recomendations on this topic.
