It took me a week and a half of absolute nonsense in order to pick it up.

They kept claiming to have attempted a delivery when I'd receive no calls from the buzzer, to which I then requested to pick it up at the nearest UPS store, which they told me they didn't do package pick up at (they do, I walk by it all the time and have seen people leave with packages and have picked one up there since), to which I then started waiting a quarter of my day waiting outside my building waiting for the truck, which wouldn't show up and still claim delivery attempts, and on the last day before they were to return it to sender, I requested pick up at the "only" place to do so at the airport (which is an added cost???), and spent two hours on transit only for them to tell me they don't take cash.

It was a miracle I got the phone at all because person behind me offered to pay the fees for me on her card if I gave her the cash. Even putting aside the added pickup fee, I think the cost to pick up the phone at all was around a hundred because of UPS' "luxury goods" fee, which Murena at no point informed me of upon purchase, so if I didn't have the spare funds from my tax return, it would've been sent back regardless. I'd also have to pay that fee again getting the new phone.

Right, cause it's perfectly acceptable to stretch my eyes at an Asian-American if they vote against their own interests.

At least that's what I gather if I apply this same logic towards other minority groups, right?

[–] Binzy_Boi@feddit.online 2 points 2 weeks ago

This is such a cheap cop-out, and says more than you think it does about how much you tolerate bigotry.

I'll make my way.

Okay, so let's take that same logic and apply it elsewhere.

Kanye West is an out and proud nazi. Do I have the right then to call him the hard r because I disagree with him?

It's an accessibility thing as well. Homeless? Need ID? Buy a phone first with the money you don't have.

My grandma can present a health card from her wallet just fine, anybody can do that. Have fun getting her to remember her passwords though.

Deadnaming a trans person is equivalent to telling them they are not who they say they are. If you deadname a trans woman as some sorta "gotcha" because they disagree with you, even if their rhetoric and actions harm the very community they're a part of, that's not far off from being the type to say "YWNBAW".

Their name is inherently connected to their identity. It's one thing to call Caitlyn some smarmy Trump-esque name like "kookie Caitlyn", or some other feminine name that isn't hers to mock her like "Candace" or "Karen", but in using her birth name/deadname, you are basically telling a trans person that their identity as their gender is invalid, and that they are only seen as the gender they identify with when they agree with you.

Instead of saying "you will never be a woman", it says "you are only a woman when I feel like you deserve to be one".

Is this a joke? It can't be that hard to have either a plastic card or an equivalent on some other sturdy material.

I love having to rely on having a smartphone in order to use a piece of ID to access basic services. Can't wait for the inevitable data breach. All this from the party supported by the "no digital ID" crowd.

So what you're saying is that basic human rights are conditional?

I can disagree with Caitlyn Jenner for taking the side of people actively campaigning against the trans community while also acknowledging that she deserves to be called the name she identifies with.

What message does this send to trans people? It says that their bare basics rights are conditional based on what they believe. A trans man can watch and follow the values of Andrew Tate, and with that fact I can call his values gross while also affording him basic human rights in addressing him by his name and using his correct pronouns. These are non-negotiable, and acting like they are plays into right-wing narratives both about trans people, and those who are left-wing.

I stopped using peanut butter and instead buy the Nuts to You brand sunflower seed butter. Started getting it since it's a Canadian company, and they source the sunflower seeds from Saskatchewan. It was a small adjustment at first, but I've been loving it the last few months and it's become a regular purchase.

There is an increase in cost swapping from regular peanut butter to this, but it's been a change I've thankfully been able to afford.

This is exactly the issue of foreign ownership of domestic brands. The moment they find it more profitable to produce things elsewhere rather than build up the local economy, they will.

Diageo makes a number of things aside from Crown Royal that are seen as domestic products. Please read the label.

The pain is that while we make tonnes of alcohol here in Canada, it's often hard to find Canadian owned alcohol at the liquor store. Take Alberta Premium Whisky for example, owned by a Japanese company despite being made here. Want to find stuff owned by Canadians? Good luck finding it.

This is my experience here in Alberta though where liquor stores are privatised rather than owned by the crown corp. Hope it's different in the other provinces.

Used to watch every video of his, but I watch him more sporadically now since his awkward tweet where he said it was alright to deadname Caitlyn Jenner because of her politics.

Him leaving the tweet up doesn't bother me considering that he's stated he leaves all of them up for transparency even if he no longer agrees with them, but what does annoy me is how he's never gone back to correct himself. I know he's not an outright transphobe, but that still doesn't sit right with me.

"You need to get a banana in you"

Hey all,

I recently just started saving the music I enjoy locally on my computer. I had a general idea of the music I liked, but never really compiled it into a collection before, and doing such has definitely been helping me better connect with the things I enjoy.

While things have overall been going well, there's this really annoying issue I've been having with MusicBee that on a cursory glance appears to be the same case with most other music players. Whenever I have a release with multiple album artists, namely with singles, MusicBee creates a new album artist entry marking the group of artists as a single artist entity.

To preface, the releases in question differ from "Various Artists" releases in that they usually have two artists collaborating on one track, or are tracks where a main artist guest features other artists. For example, I have a single titled "Search & Destroy" by "DJKurara & Supire", and instead of listing the release under the discographies of both DJKurara and Supire, it instead creates a new artist entry titled "DJKurara & Supire", which messes up the organisation of albums. Another example is a track I have called "FriendZoned" by "S3RL feat. Mixie Moon & MC Offside", where the album is organised under a new album artist entry of "S3RL feat. Mixie Moon & MC Offside", essentially treating the three working together as a new artist entirely, preventing it from being listed in S3RL's discography.

According to the fourth comment on the MusicBee forums here, this behaviour is intentional... which is hard for me to wrap my mind around. Is there any music library/player software where I can get these releases to sort properly where a release appears in the libraries of both musicians rather than an album artist entry separate from both? I'd prefer one where I don't need to edit the tags of the tracks, as I like keeping the tags as accurate as possible via MusicBrainz Picard, but this isn't an absolute requirement as I just want to keep my list of artists accurate.

Thanks in advance.

People always talk about the Grammys, but it's really high time that we as Canadians start treating the Junos as what they were intended to be: an awards ceremony recognizing the best that Canada has to offer in music and NOT a means of advertising Canadian talent to the American market.

ROOTING FOR CARIBOU AND BBNO$ WOOOOOOOOO

How it feels to post on Canadian topics as a Canadian on PieFed/Lemmy rn.

This one's an interesting one. I want to cut the amount of toilet paper I use, plus I've heard bidets are more hygienic and effective.

The main issue is that because I rent, I wouldn't be able to install one, so it'd have to be a portable model. Anybody have any idea where I can look?

Hey all,

Trying to find a Canadian brand of toothpaste, or at the very least, a brand of toothpaste that isn't American.

Crest, Colgate, Sensodyne, and Arm & Hammer are all American brands from what I can tell. I already found a Canadian brand called Green Beaver, but they're one of those "natural" companies that for some reason thinks putting flouride in toothpaste is bad, and I really don't want to give any money to a company that continues to deny science at this late date.

Thanks in advance!

Hey all,

I have a cookbook here where I found a recipe I want to make and meal plan for, but am a little confused about what to do with a specific ingredient.

The recipe is for a sauerkraut soup, and the recipe calls for a teaspoon of tomato puree. My confusion is that I am completely unfamiliar with tomato puree, and am finding it can be one of two different things, and the struggle is in sorting out which one of these two things is the one I'm looking for. Being in Canada, this isn't a product I recall seeing at all on store shelves.

Apparently in the UK and Australia, tomato puree is similar to tomato paste, though slightly different. However, in the U.S., tomato puree appears to be a product that is thinner than tomato paste, but thicker than tomato sauce.

My confusion is that this cookbook was published by an American authour in the U.S.. The measurements in the book are all imperial, calling for pints and pounds and the likes. However, things don't appear to add up as it doesn't make sense to me that someone would open a larger can like that simply for a teaspoon of ingredient. I'm unsure if things have changed over the years, but if it at all helps, this cookbook was published in 1982.

Thanks in advance!

I'm reading the room a bit with what's being posted, but figured I'd double-check and ask.

Hi all!

I've been thinking lately of following more Lemmy.ca communities where possible in order to help foster growth and community with Canadian fediverse users. I used to have a lemmy.ca account, but have since swapped to PieFed's software and have been finding it to be a much better match for me and my personal usecase.

I was just curious if there was a cooking community hosted on the Lemmy.ca instance. In going to the site myself and doing a quick search on the communities page, I was unable to find such a community. If there is one, I was hoping to be pointed in the right direction, as I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance, and Elbows up!

Hey all,

I recently got some pictures to hang onto the wall of my apartment. While I was able to hang up four of the five so far despite some challenges (needing to get a nut driver to remove portions of the frames and using a command hook for one of the frames rather than strips due to the screws holding the frame together jutting out too much for it to sit flat on the wall with command strips), there's been one picture that I'm in a weird spot with.

Now the picture is clearly not original, it's very obvious that it's a printed reproduction. Regardless, I love the way the art looks, and want to hang it on the wall behind the couch. My issue is that the wooden frame is warped, and I'm a bit lost as to where to go forward with this. The piece I removed from the frame seems to indicate that it was meant to be hung using a nail in the wall, but being in an apartment that would go against my lease. The good news is that I almost certainly can use command strips to attach it to the wall, if only I can figure out how to fix the warping to lay it flat.

Looking online, it might be me using bad search terms, but I can only seem to find out information about what causes this to happen rather than information as to how to fix it. If at all possible I want to avoid reframing the picture since honestly that wouldn't be worth the hassle with how cheap the picture seems to be seeing that it's a reprint.

Thanks in advance!

Hey all,

Last year I was diagnosed with ADHD, and while I've been making a habit of keeping medicated, I still find myself at times getting too distracted to keep me from getting important stuff done. The most infuriating thing I'm currently dealing with is my troubles in creating a consistent sleep schedule, where I have a sleep schedule that works set out, but find myself getting too distracted and staying up unreasonably late as a result.

Unfortunately I had to swap to Windows recently, so looking for suggestions that can run on Windows 10. The harder to ignore, the better. Thanks in advance!

Hey all,

I figured I'd make this post since I was recently looking at the peanut butter section of the store, and every single brand save for Kraft was imported from the US. Kraft, however, likely uses peanuts imported from the US and processes them into peanut butter here in Canada, which allows them to label their peanut butter as a product of Canada.

Peanuts are apparently hardly grown in Canada because of the climate, so importing them from down south makes sense in that regard. However, if you want to find options that source from Canadian farms, Nuts To You Nut Butter makes Sunflower and Pumpkin seed butters that source their seeds from farms in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario exclusively. Just be sure that it says "grown in Canada" on the label since while the sunflower seed butter I bought states that on the label, the pumpkin seed butter I saw didn't have the label like it does on their website, so it might be a recent change they've made. Just gave the sunflower seed butter a try today and it's genuinely incredible.

I was curious as to what brands of nut butters you all know that are made in Canada since peanut butter is such a big part of a lot of people's diets. Would love to see what y'all have to share!

Hey all,

I've recently been working on purchasing more stuff made and grown here in Canada, and have been making changes to my diet to account for that. One product that has me curious that I've never had before is "sour cabbage", which can be bought in the produce section and is apparently grown the province over.

While I haven't bought it, I was wondering what some ideas are that I can make with it. Thanks in advance!
