Most people don't think about this stuff, but if you need computer cables- power, networking, adapters, hdmi and other AV, etc, Startech is a Canadian company that makes good stuff and is very well priced. You've probably encountered it before but didn't know that it is Canadian.

Anything from Lee Valley, but I caution you from browsing their catalogue if you don’t want to spend money you didn’t plan to.

It’s like visiting TV Tropes, but for tools you didn’t know you needed.

I’m bad for that, I have to limit myself to once or twice a year

  • Public Myth is near my office and is manufacturing athletic and leisure clothing in East Van and Richmond, with a focus on sustainable materials. Most of their stuff is not really my style but I did pick up a nice bamboo t-shirt for $29 and I like it a lot.
  • Earth’s Own Barista Oat Milk is my new milk for coffee and cappuccinos. I used to buy Oatly but Earth’s Own is made in Burnaby and always on sale at London Drugs.
  • Murdock Mysteries is a show I’ve been enjoying on CBC Gem. Slightly goofy period drama with elements of steampunk, anachronistic technology. It reminds me of Doctor Who a bit.
  • Still Standing also on Gem, where comedian Jonny Harris goes to a small town for 4 days interviewing locals, culminating in a standup routine about the town. Super well done, great way to “visit” these towns and also pretty fun to watch one about a town you already know. There are 10 seasons of this show!
  • Men I Trust montreal-based band released a great new album last week. Play it or buy it on bandcamp so they actually see some of the money.
  • RobotShop.ca is a Canada-based website for hobby electronics, sensors, drones, IoT, kits, screens, devboards, components, etc, etc. Basically a Canadian version of Adafruit or Sparkfun. I’ve purchased from them about 6 times now.

I love Murdoch Mysteries. I’ve seen it several times and met some of the cast at a shooting several years ago. Yannick Bisson (Murdoch) is a really nice guy and quite funny too.

Grizzly Paw Soda! Stuff is great, they make it all in Canmore.

I've just started using the PVL whey protein, and it's much nicer than what I was using before. It's hard to notice the protein flavour as much in my smoothie. Made in Port Coquitlam, available in Superstore.

If you are doing some gardening this spring, look to see where your products are made! I recommend this Canadian brand, which is widely available in western Canada and parts of the east: My Gardening Products

[–] Hummingbird@lemmy.ca 3 points 5 days ago

Hey, thanks for this recommendation. Looks like I can buy those at both of the garden shops I go to, so I'll keep an eye out next time I go. (Going to need to be checking labels for plant pots, though, I think.)

Hard Bites chips! So yummy! Man, now I'm hungry again...

[–] IslandLife@lemmy.ca 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I bought some of those the other day for the first time! Totally worth it!

[–] Jarix@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Kind of a random useless bit if trivia but they make hard bite chips a few blocks away from linus media

[–] IslandLife@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 days ago

I'm not much of a Linus fan, even though I did buy lots of stuff from NCIX back in its hey day.

I've been enjoying these pretzels. They're kinda expensive but I can get them at a local shop so I usually try to grab a different flavour every week when I walk by there. (So far the dill pickle is my favourite by far.)

Body Energy Club for Whey Isolate and Creatine. Surprisingly never mentioned. Their clean isolate is really nice. High protein, no crap in it and light flavoured (at least the vanilla) so really versatile. 3rd party tested. Decent price.

They have two creatine products. One is a bit more expensive but it’s 100% creapure from Germany. I really like it.

BEC is out of BC and they also sell other brands: https://www.bodyenergyclub.com/

Crown Royal. It's a nice little whisky, especially for its price point.

I've also heard good things about BRBN (bourbon style whisky) by Okanagan Spirits distillery.

[–] sik0fewl@lemmy.ca 2 points 5 days ago

Personally, I don't think BRBN tastes much like bourbon, but it's a decent tasting Canadian whisky!
