What a sad day for the world of running and the world in general! He had so much potential ahead of him. Holding the world record marathon and being only 24! I’d have loved to see what greatness he would have achieved. RIP

Ironically Crimea is where weapons like the machine gun that came to dominate the 20th century were first used in scale prior to WW1. It’s one of the world’s weapons testing grounds.

This is disappointing of Apple. You hire someone like Jon Stewart and you have to expect him to do hard hitting journalism! Apple is one of the biggest companies in the whole world, they can afford to support their journalists. I’m sure HBO has gone to bat for John Oliver for worse.

We don’t get many declarations of war these days. Usually they are just special military actions, or security operations, or something like that. What makes this different?

That upgrade from stepsister to stepmom.

In what context is Fir a valid abbreviation for Friday in English? I feel like that’s the issue! Should be Fri.

Sounds like a movie, but I wouldn’t want to be the bounty hunter tasked with going up against the Secret Service! Though this does raise questions about the Secrets Service’s responsibility to protect against legally sanctioned law enforcement (of sorts).

Feels much more true on Android than Windows in my experience.

And there are physical therapists who do acupuncture strictly for muscle release without all of the chi stuff.

On Lemmy, I sure use it a ton between different Lemmy instances and KBin! On Mastodon I only use it to communicate across Mastodon instances really, but neither service would be the same without the ability to see posts from other instances.

Maybe at a cushy white collar office job. I work at a hospital. There is no down time when you are on the clock, that’s true for nurses, doctors, housekeeping, pharmacy, lab, food service - I’d imagine the same is also true for all sort of service industry workers, and also factory workers, farmers, construction, and so so many others. Let’s stop pretending that everyone just sits in front of a computer all day.

.mil Military (MURRICA)

That is what made this whole .ml problem. Some people have apparently accidentally leaked American state secrets to Mali by typo.

I tried for way too long to figure out the bottom left quadrant before I realized it’s just three images.

I can’t even imagine! Over 4 days! 400 miles!

Edit: title formatting.

Let’s say you have a loop route. In one direction it’s mostly gently, but consistently and perceptively, uphill with several big descents and in the other direction it’s mostly gently downhill with several big climbs. Which direction do you pick?

I tend to pick the generally downhill route. I’d rather get my climbs over quickly on steep hills than slog it out going slowly uphill over a long distance.

It’s hot again, which means it’s chafing season. One thing I’ve noticed is that my running shorts always ride up on my left leg, and only my left leg. Multiple pairs, different brands and styles, it doesn’t matter. I get much worse chaffing on that leg. I use Body Glide or Squirrel’s Nut Butter religiously and can manage it alright, but I’m wondering about why my shorts always ride up on just that one leg. Is that normal? Does that happen to you? Could it say something about my gait? Or maybe my thighs just aren’t even in size? Thanks

How about a lactic acid in a grey on ice - a grey urine culture boric acid tube that is! Took me a second to even grasp what had happened, “why is that a solid clot?”

My wonderful wife and mother of my child got me flowers. It’s not exactly the most manly thing, but nobody has ever gotten me flower before, and it makes me feel so happy and appreciated! Hope everyone has a great one!

But who else will probably avoid coming here to reduce their post work anxiety?
