The block feature should be renamed to “mute”, which is what it seems to actually be. Currently I can apply this to a user and they can still see all my posts. So it’s a good mute feature but a terrible block feature.

Yeah, it sounds like the mute feature I’m looking for. Which means there isn’t really a block option for those who need it. Thanks for explaining.

So many quotable pieces in this article. This is one that stayed with me:

“ The brain has learned that the phone is a random provider of "new experiences". Even in airplane mode, it was demonstrated that having the phone on your desk or in your bag degrades heavily your attention and your thinking performance. Performance went back to normal only when the phone was put in another room.”

I can absolutely believe this. I find even other people’s phones distracting.

“ financiers provided the world’s top 55 industrial livestock companies with average annual credit injections of $77bn”

Are the meat and dairy businesses applying for loans? The article says that the banks are in breach of their own environmental policies so I’m curious how it’s supposed to work.

Is it possible to mute a user? I only see a block option, which seems excessive.

Of the three (default, Photon, Alexandria), Photon is my favourite by a long way.

I use dark mode on everything so I have that bias. I find Photon easier to read than the others site to the colors.

The larger image preview is easier to see. I prefer text-only in general, but I notice my eyes are less strained trying to make out thumbnail details with Photon.

The UI layout seems tidier too.

Is the long term plan to keep them optional or phase out some in favour of others?

The. British are also silent when it comes to paying reparations for their own misdeeds overseas, which unfortunately strips this statement of credibility.

That’s a good point. I don’t know if I can blame them - there are powerful forces in the battles for hearts and minds. The Murdoch press is one example.

Disclaimer: I’m not from Britain though.

I think the electorate know what to expect every time they vote his party into power.
