I'm procrastinating at work and installing random packages with CLI that are just fun to mess with. Recently I've been looking up all my co-workers with Sherlock, just for fun. Does anyone else have CLI stuff that they like to screw with when they're bored?

This is making me realize how much of real life operates with what people would consider troll physics were it not observably true. Black holes come to mind. Also shooting bullets underwater.

My favorite part is how the devil is judging the contest himself, and even with that huge advantage he's still like "nah he's just better rip"

I took this at Muskallonge State Park in Michigan. It's the only place within a few hundred miles of my house that's Bortle class 1, meaning zero light pollution. It was fantastic and I absolutely want to go back sometime.

The more you read into the themes of Rowling's work, the more you realize she just has very poor media literacy in general.

Thinking about this because of a greentext I saw earlier complaining about OF models.

It feels like a lot of the stigma surrounding sex work in the modern day (that doesn't just boil down to misogyny/gender norms/religion) is based on the fact that selling intimate aspects of one's self places a set value on something that many see as sacred; something that shouldn't have monetary value.

Not to say anything about the economic validity of a society without currency, but I think that, hypothetically, if that were to exist, sex work would be less stigmatized since this would no longer be a factor. Those engaged in sex work would be more likely to be seen as doing it because it's something they are good at/enjoy, and less because it's an "easy" way to make money, as some think. It would also eliminate the fear of placing set value on social, non sex-work related intimacy (not that those fears were well-founded to begin with).

I feel like there's a lot of these, where someone says "how do you explain [extremely basic, everyday thing] without [religion]?", it's kinda weird. Like being a certain level of religious makes you immune to all common sense.

Shoots dog

Marries off child to 40-year-old

Bullies trans kid to suicide

Commits hate crime

Marches in the street chanting Nazi slogans

"Oh I'm sorry LIBERAL, does my extremely NORMAL behavior TRIGGER you???"

I had to do some serious convincing to inform my mom about the CIA's involvement in Contra cocaine trafficking.

I'm one of the 5-10%. I always sucked at verbal memory tasks. Didn't know some people have an real, interpretable internal monologue until a few years ago. I thought thinking nonverbally was the default. I even specifically remember watching shows and movies where you listen to a character's internal internal monologue and thinking "this is dumb, that's not how thinking works". Turns out it is, and I'm just in the minority! Now I make an effort to manually start an internal monologue when I'm doing anything that requires a lot of verbal processing, like listening to instructions at work. It helps, but I can still tell that I have a deficit compared to most people when it comes to those things.

Of course Linux is better for custom, purpose-built hardware. That's like, its main advantage for the commercial sector.

Right-wing political philosophy is becoming so authoritarian that we're really harassing people who just lost their pregnancy, treating them like criminals until proven otherwise.

The fact that its main 2 gimmicks are a shitty ad blocker and integrated cryptocurrency should be enough of a red flag, honestly. Just use Firefox, people!

I don't understand how you can say "you have to have a kid even if you can't support it" when it comes to abortion and then say "I don't want my taxes to help pay for your kid's food" when it comes to food assistance. The consequence is obviously going to be food insecurity for kids, why would you not want your tax money to help fix that? 8.4% of US kids are food insecure.
