Ngl that kinda sounds like Nix with extra steps.
When? I'm one video away from being blocked and I manually updated my ublock stuff like a week ago.
Still absolutely not true
Murica is the world, duh
but literally nothing is stopping you from running your own server.
Nothing except gmail's very strict and hard to follow guidelines for spam filtering. Whether it's a byproduct of spam filtering or whether it's the intended result, the fact that Google essentially controls email traffic means you're not gonna have a good time communicating with others using your self-hosted email. This issue has been raised by self-hosters getting blacklisted, all the way to companies getting rate limited. If your intended use is to communicate with your everyday person, and considering the everyday person probably uses Gmail, you're in for a bad time at some point down the line.
The internet IS very US-centric, so this is kinda true, but it's also very easy to abuse and bore people out. I'm Honduran and I know more about US Politics than about my country's own politics. I know more about US politics than I do about every other country. This is not a flex, it's a fucking burden on my mind and mental health.
I kinda liked how Lemmy wasn't too US-centric at first, but I'm feeling similar levels of burnout from Lemmy as I did from Reddit, which was mostly due to how much US shit was posted there just about everywhere.
I actually hate the new whatsapp desktop app on windows. They somehow managed to turn it into this nearly unusable mess, where absolutely everything is super slow (5950x CPU be damned), most times textboxes just refuse to take focus and you just don't type at all until you click on something other than whatsapp and then click back in, and the app sometimes just completely disappears from my Taskbar. I've noticed similar trends of bugginess on the android app, every now and then the textbox will just shoot up to the top of the screen, or just behave erratically. Feels like I'm watching the spiritual rebirth of post-MS acquisition Skype.
We're way beyond saving by planting trees. We're way beyond saving by picking up trash on the streets. This is a worldwide systemic issue that can NOT be solved by individuals reducing their carbon footprint, we as a species need a negative carbon footprint to survive this century, or even these next few decades, or even these next few years. We have a transport problem, we have a factories problem, we have an affluence problem, a conglomerates problem, we have a capitalism problem, we have a "progress" problem.
It's ridiculous to get angry at a child that sees all this and cries out in desperation, most of us will die before she and her generation does, and they're going to be left with a mess beyond repair. And it's not because Timmy ate a burger or because Anne didn't pick up trash in a park, nor is it because Bob commutes using a car, it's because our economic system demands "progress" at all cost right this moment. It's because our cities around the world prioritize cars and cheap individualistic transportation. It's because prices need to be stable, so let's throw products away to create a limit on supply. It's because it's more profitable to implement planned obsolescence than it is to implement renewability and durability into products. This is clearly not something that can be solved by a single person, whether that person is an everyday anon who does his or her best to reduce their carbon footpront, or whether that is a kid addressing the world leaders while in distress about her future life in this world. The change that needs to happen is revolution, and the world is too complacent and too scared of taking such actions to save itself, and I can't really blame people for it, even if we should.
Hey, wonderful! This guy over here has done less gamage to the environment than a child climate activist with money! He has single handedly averted the climate apocalypse in doing so!
See, it isn't a fucking competition about who's fucking the world less, it's about all of us not fucking the world up to extinction. We don't get there by being good little green boys while nothing is done about the affluent, the powerful, and the conglomerates. And guess what, nobody is doing anything about them, and I'm not about to get angry at a child for desperately calling that out even if she can't do anything else about it.
I hate how everything requires additional software all the time (at least on Windows). Just give me proper drivers and no bloat, how hard could that be? Instead I need the G HUB for button mapping on my G903, I need Logi Options for the fn keys to work on my MX Keys, I need two of Corsair's shitty fucking apps just to get readings from my "smart" PSU and to control the fans on my AIO, I needed an additional ASUS program that was incredibly fucking shitty, just to control the case fans (eventually gave up and now I'm more than happy just going into the BIOS settings)....and don't get me started on the rgb. Close G HUB? Now my mouse is all rainbows n shit. Close Corsair whateverthefuckname? Now my corsair keyboard has all the wrong colors since somehow they don't map them correctly to the onboard memory (I got rid of that keyboard and got the Mx Keys instead because there was 0 upsides to having a mechanical rgb keyboard). Even on my razer laptop, if I dare not have synapse, I'm stuck with shitty rgb mode, and they don't even try to get white properly implemented into their RGB keyboards.
Companies have had the chance to work together on making these things more standardized, less bloated, more controllable and user friendly, but instead they choose the path of bloated and buggy software or web apps for things you should be able to do locally. I hate it and I'm never going RGB or fancy schmancy that requires custom software ever again.
As someone who has a profile only for Whatsapp (used to also be Instagram), a profile for banking & finances, a profile for some stuff that needs play services, and a profile for most other stuff (main profile).....don't use profiles unless you're only creating one more at the most, and you're absolutely certain there's no need to share information between the profiles.
Graphene has had a long-standing bug from upstream AOSP, if I recall correctly, where it'll always ask for your pin when changing profiles, and only sometimes will it allow you to use your fingerprint or alternative methods to get into your profiles. I almost never get the fingerprint option for my main profile, and have to tap back from the pin input on other profiles to get the option to use fingerprint, and not always. They do sometimes push something that loosely resembles a fix, but it'll go back to not working after another update.
Regarding communicating between profiles, that's hard to pull off. The curveball of having to send screenshots from banking apps, say, confirming transactions, it's made a lot worse with profiles. I'm currently relying on my nextcloud instance to upload screenshots from finances, then downloading those screenshots from nextcloud into my WhatsApp profile, just to send a proof of transfer to someone. I'm definitely not keeping my phone like this for much longer.
All else considered, however, I'm not going back to a ROM that doesn't respect me as the owner of my device. I'm happy to have switched to graphene and I am here to stay.
