The concept is simple, go talk to your dad and stop wasting time on the internet lol
Fundamental misunderstanding? The misunderstanding is you think the world should cater to the uneducated and uninformed. Your dad isn't a lost cause but crusading on the internet to remove memes might be.
Initially personality will be a program but when we actually achieve a truly sentient machine, what most people consider to be an AI, it will have come with its own personality because that's how "life" works. The idea of complete control over anything is a fallacy. I'm not saying it's going to become genocidal I'm saying it is going to want to live.
Look buddy, I'm from the south and this is a talking point for Confederate sympathizers. This train of thought has no substance to it. The civil war didn't just happen to people, slavery did. People did what they had to do to get out and there's nothing authoritarian about that. You're not being more intelligent than everyone else and you're not the smartest person in the room like this gentleman would like you to believe, you're being gullible.
What I'm trying to say is IMO an offline version wouldn't be worth playing. The shared victories and failures can't be simulated and that's the nature of this kind of video game. There's been a lot of similar games so I understand the reluctance to join in but the comradery they've built through PvE is really something.
You tell yourself whatever you need to to live in this society and be happy. I'm sure the extra $.80 you're spending for the label that says cruelty free, is in fact cruelty free.
No but unethical is unethical so I'm not sure where you're going with this.
Just like we never should have bailed out corporations we should not worry about taxing corporations or the rich. The void will be filled and more rich people will be made. That's how the "free market" works. If you do not let companies die innovation slows and the economy rots. Rich people may not be motivated but some poor people will be.
I imagine it being more academic. It would take an enormous amount of power to create a simulation like this so my guess is, the civilization running the simulation has a much better understanding of the universe and rather than experimenting in their own world they created one. I also like the idea of a future civilization discovering humans after we have gone extinct and having enough information to create a simulation to watch it happen.
Getting your finger stuck in the VCR because the videotape would not eject. You had to stick your finger in and poke the tape while mashing the eject button. Worked everytime. Also pushing rewind on a tape and walking away because someone forgot to rewind and you don't want to watch the video in reverse.

I mean I get it these people should be charged but seriously Chase? Aren't you supposed to be like a bank that's all about security? So we're pissing away a bunch of gov't resources to track down and charge these criminals cause Chase can't roll out a remote deposit system that works properly? Seems like the gov't should investigate how tf this happened in the first place
