The kernel does stuff like

  • process and CPU task management
  • hardware abstraction
  • memory management (at the process level),
  • file system managment
  • and resource isolation (such as randomized memory addresses (ASLR))

The rest of the OS provides the actual software that users interact with, like

  • file managers
  • desktop rendering and window management
  • settings menus
  • sound mixing between applications
  • graphics rendering

Edit: oh, you're right

Our beds and pads are NOT pressure sensitive. All K&H heated beds and pads feature dual thermostats and are designed to warm to your pet's normal body temperature when he/she lies on the pad. This is a function of the insulation provided by a pet’s body, not the weight of the pet.

That's actually some clever engineering and design. I have always wondered how it knew when a pet was on it (it doesn't)

Thermostatically controlled to warm to your pet's normal body temperature only when your pet is in the bed

My cats love these as well

~~They are self regulating, meaning they keep a low heat when nothing is on them, but they heat up when they detect something is on them~~

Very well worth

But it clearly doesn't depict a lunar eclipse

[-] Lightfire228@pawb.social 6 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

A lunar eclipse usually results in a red moon, since the moon is lit with red light from all the sunsets on Earth simultaneously

It's not in pure shadow, since the Earth's atmosphere acts as a lens and bends some of the light inward towards the moon

This looks more like a solar eclipse

Some cats don't like to put their faces in bowls. It pushes on their whiskers, which repeated daily can cause them pain or irritation. That's why they refuse to eat anything but the center of the bowl, where the pressure on their whiskers is the least

Try feeding them on a small plate or shallow bowl

(You might also see cats pawing their food onto the floor, then eating it. Same reason)

The weight of the material is supported by your shoulders, and not your hips, which is far more comfortable in general

In addition to having more room for pockets, overalls can carry heavier things without falling down, nor need for a belt

Since the weight of the material is carried at the shoulders, bending down at the waist is easier and less restricted. The waistband no longer needs to be tight, since it no longer serves a functional purpose

Turning their back to you: they feel safe and trust you.

Putting their butt in your face: they want you to lick it, as their mother would.

Obviously, don't do that, but instead, give their haunches and above-the-tail backside a good scritch

Rolling on their back: they're exposing their vulnerable stomachs to you as a show of trust. this is not an invitation to touch their stomach

slowly closing their eyes while looking at you: this is also a sign of trust. You can do it back to them to make them happier

NSFL (Not Safe For Life) typically means stuff like gruesome injuries, blood and gore, or possibly fatalities

Which is different from NSFW, because sometimes you want to hear a dirty joke, bit you could do without seeing the aftermath of a Meat Crayon

Every night, one of my cats yells at me, until I give her brushes and attention

Is there a c/imSorryJohn ?

When cats do this (complain that the bottom of the bowl is empty), it's typically because they don't want to shove their face (and wiskers) into the edges of the bowl

Its called "wisker stress"

A shallower bowl (or just a small plate) is usually more comfortable for them to eat off of

Alternatively, they might paw the food out of the bowl then eat it off the floor, for the same reason
