Sounds good to me:

The above-mentioned politicians believe that after the "elimination" of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Russians will elect the Constituent Assembly, which will create the "State Council". The latter will, in particular:

conclude a peace agreement with Ukraine recognising its territory within the borders of 1991; justly compensate Ukraine for the damage that the country suffered as a result of the war. Afterwards, it will take Russia along the way that the country had already traveled before, during Boris Yeltsin's presidency. Russia will then be integrated into Euro-Atlantic institutions, whereas Russian regions will be decentralised.

Suomalainen rasismikohu: hyväosainen, vaaleaihoinen kokoomuskansanedustaja kertoo olleensa rasismin uhri.

Can't make this shit up...

I've always thought that CAPTCHA also checksfor time, e.g. if the correct solution is entered too fast, it will determine that you are a bot. This would mean that a fast bot would not really "win". Not sure if this is the case or why I've thought it is, but it came to my mind from this 😅

It's difficult to build lasting peace when the aggressor does not want it. Sure the Russians are open to peace in their terms, but imo that is just escalate things again in few years to come.

Don't get me wrong, EU is in big part a peace project. That however shouldn't happen at just any cost. Free, independent and territorially whole Ukraine is important for the future peace, Ukraine, Europe and even good for Russia.

Just out of curiosity: is anyone here using Love2D and Lua for game development? I have some experience with Unity but sometime ago started learning Love2D. Lua seems to very simple language to code in and since Love2D doesn't have any graphical UI it sort of forces you to make everything work through code. As a beginner hobbyists, I really love this.

I'd love to hear your thoughts about Love2D and what it's capable of. Currently I am interested in doing asmall Snake-like puzzle game and a demo for classic Ultima type crpg. Not really full games, but I am sort of interested in seeing how well certain concepts and ideas work in practice. Lua seems to be very good for doing just that.

Depends who you are, I guess. For women, leaving alone is very difficult if not impossible as you would need a male guardian to escort you.

As a man it it's easier but comes down to the money. Most people there are very poor and in a country where family an tribal ties are really important, it is very difficult to pack up your things and leave.

Also, poor Afgan refugees are not received very well by other countries. They are also afraid of the lunacy of the fundamentalist religious movement spreading.

Like any country Afganistan has wealthy people too and for them leaving is probably the easiest.

On general note, Afganistan is a prime example of what a fundamentalist leadership and religion can lead to. Can happen in other countries and outside of Islam too. We should be aware of this.

That's a helluva expensive shot. I mean, you should definitely get it, but nobody should have to pay that much for it. I guess that's USA...

[-] NukeminHerttua@sopuli.xyz 68 points 1 year ago

Every time I think that the US is a civilized "first world" country, they find a way to remind me of the reality. It really is shocking how backwards some things are in certain states.

Hope you get a federal law to prevent similar accidents in the future...

Florida should just be removed from the rest of the US and continue to exist as an isolated island for assholes.

Stupid question, but what's Shodan and why should I get it?

Pomokin luottaa alaisiinsa, mikä on todella tärkeä asia.

Huonompia kokemuksia onkin sitten lähinnä opiskeluajalta, jolloin kyllä tunsi paikoin olevansa resurssi muiden joukossa.

Can't believe I make a second post so soon. Found this on @memes and thought I should share. So here you go 😁

...but I kinda like it. They are fascinating breed of birds aren't they? Surprisingly intelligent and playful bunch.

Magpies are probably my favorite, or atleast the ones I enjoy watching the most, so here's an picture of one of them 😅

I'm sure it also has something to do with that when you get older, you've had those experiences many more times than as a child. They just don't feel that specia anymore.l

Tai olisiko jollakulla suositella appia Lemmyn käyttöön (Reddittiä sekaisin Reddit is fun -sovelluksella)

Kiitos!

I am currently reading the book and would love to hear other people's thoughts about it. I cannot do any deep analysis of it, but here's some random thoughts about the book:

Personally I was surprised how easy it is to read. At the same time it is hard to follow, which makes it a very slow read. Therefore I find the Infinite Jest difficult to pick up and impossible to read in long stretches. However, most of the book is very intriguing and I am determined to finish it, no matter how long it takes. Currently I'm about 100 pages in, so there's still lot more to go.

Up to this point I enjoy the fractured structure of the book the most. It presents almost random flashes into different peoples' lives and situations they're in. Most of it is interesting, but I do get a bit bored reading about the stuff going on in the Tennis Academia. The constant shuffling between the text and footnotes has not gotten into me yet, but I guess it might become annoying at some point.

Other thing I love is that the universe of Infinite Jest manages to be both terrifying and ridicilous. The world presented is absolute nonsense and has both dystopian and utopian qualities:

  • There are Wheelchair Assassins, Québécois separatists and a unified American State called O.N.A.N (I am reading a translation, so the allusion to masturbation eluded me until I read about it in the internet) to begin with.

  • Calendar has been sold to sponsors so that instead of numbers and traditional names, years and months have names of their sponsor's.

  • Teenagers are playing a game with ridicilous amount of arbitary rules, which really boils down to jumping in front of a moving train (thus bringing up new candidates for the Wheelchair Assassins).

  • So much more.

At times the whole book reads like a giant Monty Python sketch with a human element at the center of it all. Focus seems to be on themes of addiction and media influence, but who knows where it all will lead to.

I highly recommend you try the book, if you have any interest at all. To read more, you can check the Wikipedia page (seems to spoil the "plot", so use with caution): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infinite_Jest

tldr; Infinite Jest is frustrating but a wonderful book/reading experience. Please share your thoughts wether you've read it or not.

Not counting the obvious blackmail aspect of the Two Pence Sultan's demand, the whole idea is stupid.

EU and NATO are separate organizations with separate structures. While most of EU are NATO members, NATO issues aren't, shouldn't and cannot be decided in EU bodies. I'd be very surprised if anyone in EU (including Sweden) would change their stance towards Turkey unless they themselves undergo fundamental changes to match the applicant criteria.

Unless Erdogan has his head totally up in his own arse, He knows this. He's probably upping the ante to later back off and make a deal on some other issue that has been too much for NATO or the US up to this point.

Ofcourse this is just my reading of the situation and I'm not an expert on Turkey or international policy. It just seems to fit Erdogan's Modus operandi.

At this point those are just empty words.

China's version of socialism is pretty much authoritarian capitalism while Musk is keen on promoting capitalist authoritarism. So it's really a match made in heaven...

I've been following John Vervaeke's public work for some time now and find it interesting on many levels. In this new video He and science fiction author Damien Walter are discussing mythos, the importance of storytelling and what we can learn from the way Star Trek is telling it's stories.

Personally I tie this to the notion that in order for humankind to survive and keep our human character, we have to resurrect great narratives and belief in some sort of shared progress. Star Trek offers a glimpse of the future that, while fictional, can work as a mainstay for facing contemporary and future problems.
