Man I really think this highlights how badly we need to stop using the word third-world. Thanks for pointing that out. It is antiquated and just used arbitrarily these days. I was trying to convey war-torn countries, countries with too much unrest to support a universal healthcare system, etc. Those descriptions are not descriptive of every third-world country.

Also “survivorship bias” sadly plays a part in this. The healthcare is low quality or nonexistent. Everyone seems to have an excellent immune system because most everyone that didn’t… died.

15

I saw a comment about a week ago that said the displayed number of subscribers/upvotes displayed is the count for people on your instance. Essentially meaning that if an instance displays that it has 15 subscribers it actually only means there’s 15 subscribers from my personal instance (vlemmy.net in my case) and not overall from across the Fediverse. Same for upvotes.

Is that in any way accurate? Or am I totally off base on this one? The only reason I ask is because I’ve noticed the subscriber counts on some communities seem very low vs. the amount of engagement.

Quick question- what specifically were you looking to export from Apollo over to WefWef? I tried exporting the .json file from Apollo over to WefWef following the instructions and it basically was just a list of my subscribed communities and allowed me to search for similar communities on here (most of which were pretty niche and therefor not on here yet. Totally understandable.) Is there something else I’m missing?

Apple just became the first company in history to surpass $3 TRILLION in value. Something tells me you don’t get there unless you’re the type of company that won’t “just stop” lol

It seems wild that something like dragging a window to the corner to snap it into place is patented. The one feature I long for on Mac.

Shockingly- I’ve heard from a few of my teacher friends that the upcoming generation isn’t that computer savvy. (EDIT- “traditional” computers that is).

We’re starting to see the “tablet kids” grow up. They were raised with iPads and iPhones. And they didn’t have to deal with figuring out how to “deal with the inner workings” to download a bunch of computer programs. Their typing skills are apparently not that great as well for the same reason.
