Yes, tax avoidance is an issue and the bigger the company the bigger the issue. Supporting smaller local businesses as much as you can is the best option.

If the company is Canadian, then they're paying Canadian taxes. Like, we don't make rice in Canada but I'll buy from 555 which is a local importer instead of Uncle Ben. Or for example, I try to buy Canadian soap but if I can't, I buy French brands.

I buy Canadian first, anything but US second, any effort is good, there's no way you're gonna have a 100% local economy anyway...

The whole idea of the movement is to buy more consciously.

Depending where you are it's honestly not hard to avoid amazon.

I've cancelled prime in January and since then, I found that every thing I needed and got there for convenience, I got from elsewhere for the same if not less and with the same kind of shipping speed.

Hell, just this week I was setting up my old vita for my son and found I needed a replacement charger. I found it from a used game store in Ontario, came to me in 2 days.

I'm ashamed of being lazy these past few years and using them so much when I could have supported local businesses instead...

You won't get much local fruits in the winter nut Mexico is ok I think. I means it's way better than the US.

There are greenhouse farmers that deliver all year long. In Quebec, we have Lufa farms, I'm sure there's alternatives in the other provinces.

It's a hard one but next is to leave their platforms as much as possible.

I'm currently De-googling / de Microsoft-ing and it's hard but feasible.

If you're not ready to leave Facebook, follow the guide John Oliver's team put out.

Otherwise, go see local comedians / bands or buy their stuff to support them, stuff like that
