The CEO of the streaming platform was participating in the stream, I think this visit was meant to be a publicity stunt to drum up more interest in the platform which is trying to become an alternative to Twitch. It’s investor money that was lost here, not the streamer’s money.

Paper tea bags usually contain polypropylene or another plastic so they can be heat sealed shut. They aren’t fully compostable.

For the Texans specifically, I would like to add that Ken Paxton is trying to primary Presiding Judge Sharon Keller, Judge Barbara Hervey and Judge Michelle Slaughter of the Criminals Court of Appeals which is the highest level criminal appeals court in Texas. He is upset with them because they wouldn’t allow him to pursue voter fraud cases unilaterally, his office has to get permission from a local prosecutor now.

Ken Paxton has also put a lot of money into trying to primary state legislators who voted to impeach him, that is why so many incumbents do have challengers right now. Definitely look up your local races before going in to vote.

In case anyone is out of the loop on Attorney General Ken Paxton, I have one more link about the charges of securities fraud he was indicted on eight years ago. The case is finally going to trial in April.

I find it helpful to have the thing being imitated as part of the name, but not the full name. It makes for an easy way to know what the taste and texture should be and how it can be used in cooking. My kid developed a dairy allergy recently and vegan butter in particular is so easy to substitute in old favorite recipes without changing the flavor much or cooking method. As for meat imitations, a “vegetarian steak” (or ham) label conveys a lot about the texture, moisture, saltiness, and cooking techniques you can expect to use while a generic name such as “plant protein block” leaves you much more clueless as to what the texture and cooking method is meant to be for that item. I don’t think it should be legal to sell plant substitutes as only “steak “ or “butter”, but calling it “plant steak” or “plant butter” is way more straightforward and easy to fit on a label than a lengthy description of “plant patty with a fibrous, chewy texture and savory flavor resembling steak.”

When the opposition is trying to end democracy so it can have free rein to do whatever it likes, sometimes you have to. This isn’t a polite disagreement about convoluted economic theories, they want to eliminate large segments of our population and their supporters are already violent. At some point they are going to stop busing foreigners to different cities and start gunning them down. They likely aren’t going to be too gentle with LGBTQ populations when they work to eliminate them. They are already controlling what kind of medical care women have access to and they will probably find more ways to restrict women’s lives to promote their ideas of Christian morality. Women are already being told they have to be at death’s door to have their miscarriages treated, this situation is currently at the point of being a life and death issue for many people when the christofascists have barely started taking control.

Apparently we also need BadBabiesAnatomy now.

There’s also the Moms for Liberty organizer who was a convicted sex offender that was identified about a month before the bisexual couple. Their candidates had been losing plenty of local elections before all these scandals came out because it turns out a lot of people don’t want to elect crazy book banning people to their local school boards.

Speaker Johnson explicitly said the blurring is so the DoJ isn’t “weaponized” against these people. It is precisely to prevent further prosecutions by making it harder to identify people in newly released footage, they aren’t even trying to pretend otherwise.

Some people don't want to come off as really crass and aggressive. I don't understand why people get so offended by polite language. It's not a religious thing, plenty of religious people swear up a storm.

My dad was in the army, so he was no stranger to swearing. My parents weren't strict or religious when I was growing up. I just didn't like how harsh and, frankly, how stupid swears sounded, so I decided not to use them.

People like to say "you can swear on the internet", but just because you can do something doesn't mean you should do it. The people on the internet are every bit as real as people off the internet and words can cause a whole lot of hurt. Why not make the internet a more friendly and inviting place?

Does it really hurt anyone that this person edited this post to match their personality better? Why is this even a big deal?

Not everyone has the money and ability to uproot themselves and leave their entire support system behind. The more liberal areas with more protections tend to be high population regions with a high cost of living. We need nationwide protection of access to medical care so you don't have to move just to get the care you need or to be able to provide an ethical level of care to your patients if you are in the medical profession.

States aren't homogenous, not even red states. I am sure many of the people affected voted against those politicians and laws but were in the minority. It's a really cold and callous attitude to ignore their plight just because their neighbor thinks they should be punished.

The religious powers also want this to be a nationwide policy and they fund many Republicans in Congress. This can easily go from state bans to a nationwide ban now that we have a majority of Supreme Court justices opposed to abortion rights. All they need is another year with a big red wave.

[-] Zitronensaft@feddit.de 16 points 1 year ago

Enshrining abortion rights in state law will be meaningless if Republicans gain control of Congress and write new laws restricting or abolishing abortion under federal law. Lindsey Graham already introduced a 15 week abortion ban. They could also go with a 6 week ban like Texas instituted shortly before Roe v Wade was overturned or they might even find a way to classify all abortion as murder under federal law.

State law doesn't trump federal law. At best, states might choose not to enforce the federal law and leave it up to federal agencies to police and enforce.
