I wouldn't focus too much on that. I studied in a Greek-medium public school, and the sculptures were always referred to as "Elgin Marbles" in history textbooks produced by the Greek Ministry of Education. Same for journalism and public discourse in Greek.

Diligently correcting the term to "Parthenon sculptures" is a recent cause.

Betteridge's law of headlines, right?

It can definitely be understandable, but problematic nevertheless. I think the editorial is on-point.

Es gibt Möglichkeiten im Privatsektor. Man muss nicht unbedingt Politiker:in sein, man kann einfach mit einem befreundet sein.

Not sure if relevant, but in recent years, several countries have proclaimed universal jurisdiction for certain crimes. Increasingly often, countries assert the right to prosecute their own citizens for abuse of children even when committed abroad, which has been deemed necessary to counter "sex tourism".

Given that this is an accusation of sexual assault, I won't be surprised if Spain claims jurisdiction for sexual abuse of/by its citizens anywhere in the world.

Mein Herkunftsland, leider.

I'm going to take "favourite" at face value, i.e. that I actually like, not just that I am forced to use because the alternative doesn't exist (e.g. my bank's app or the post-office's app) or isn't viable (PDF editors on Android).

Libby, the lending library app. I could avoid it and stick to physical media and piracy, but it's a well-designed app with a decent catalogue and given that it's a library and not me purchasing DRMed files, I found the ethical proposition there tolerable.

This is definitely something to find out more about. My current level of understanding of their mechanism is "they dull all emotions, you don't feel anything too strongly but that's good because you also don't feel too depressed". That seems to be quite wrong.

Philips OneBlade war eine sehr gute Wahl für mich.

Meine Bibliotheksverbund Mitgliedsschaft und die BahnCard25 sind auch besonders günstig.

As if anyone was ever harmed by such books.

Children's literature can still be judged on its pedagogical merits. Not all books are good, and that's why we have book reviews and experts writing recommendations for which books can be worthy additions to the school curriculum.

Heartstopper happens to be a work with quite high pedagogical merit because it approaches sensitive issues with tenderness, age-appropriateness and responsibility (especially when medical themes are explored in the story).

But some books can be potentially harmful and they shouldn't be read by children still learning about the world, especially if they don't have access to other reliable sources of information to counterbalance the bad information of some books.

To talk from personal experience, when I was growing up as a young gay teenager in a conservative country where there was no sex education in schools (at all, not even straight sex education) and no public real or fictional healthy models of queer relationships available, my only source of representation was yaoi manga that seemed to end up in the general comics book section of a chain bookstore. Even the non-pornographic manga did give me extremely harmful ideas about how relationship dynamics between two men might look like, both romantically and sexually. I did suffer real harm later on when as an older teenager I began dating, and the contribution of reading bad representation is not trivial to that.

For my younger self, I wish that I did have access to good books like Heartstopper, and someone informed enough to tell me that I shouldn't be reading the bad books until I was mature enough to understand why they are bad and how healthy relationships look like.

Hungary's law of course doesn't care about queer youth getting access to good books and avoiding bad books. Hungary's law just wants queer youth to disappear.

The KDE Itinerary's platform layout maps are a good sell. I'll try it next to DB Navigator on my next trip. KDE Apps on Android are a bit unstable, at least on my phone, but at least now they load. Last time I tried I could barely get them to even do that.
