Even if you assumed a goal of reproductive success, it's idiotic to think there is a single best strategy that is unchanging. Humans evolved over tens of thousands of years, and they evolved to be adaptable. It's like trying to play a football game with the same play every time... People will catch on quickly.

My dad uses those insecticide or fertilizer things that hook up to a hose. I'm just worried about backflow into our pipes from it

Well as long as they don't wield political power

 

We have vacuum breakers but my dad will inevitably remove it because he can't stand that humming sound. He also insists on leaving the hose bib/valve at all times, even when he's not using it.

I don't want my parents to accidentally poison themselves or us when we visit.
