I do remember it being more common back when I was in high school, and also there was a movie which mentioned that which could have helped with that

I also havent heard it being said seriously for years though

Tldr: All in all, Elon hasn't really changed how he operates, it's just that since aligning openly with the right he has been more open about a lot of shit and also has been boosting a lot of shit he probably doesn't really believe. This in turn has extinguished a lot of the support he had in the internet which leads to people actually scrutinizing his character and a lot more than what he says has come to light or is being analyzed in a different light to what it was back then, painting Elon as the evil and stupid billionare he actually is.

The actual comment:

I know you said to not say he has always been like that, but the honest truth is he has been like that, it's just that the media was used to taking everything he said at face value and he was a bit more restrained (although not necessarily on interviews themselves).

The amount of controversy about him busting unions, having poor working conditions, stealing credit from his engineers, this was always public knowledge even when he was generally beloved by the common redditors. This is not meant to be a dig or anything, but at least on the leftists circles I tend to participate in this was always mentioned whenever he was in talks, it's just that most people don't care when billionares are exploitative pieces of shit, yhey just care about the image they sell.

He was also always surrounded by stupid scandals pre 2021, be it the submarine pedo (where for some reason I saw people on refdit defending him), him suddenly denying his family had shares on emerald mines, him and all his sex and abuse scandals, it all made news but got forgotten as soon as he pulled an "epic move" like doge coin...

What I said before is regarding his actions and actual contributions to the companies he controls, which is related to why he is do shit at handling twitter as a company, now about his public persona, the tweets he currently posts and why he is hated en mass.

Most his memes have always been reposts, buy the problem is that he now aligns with the far right in the united states, there are many reasons of why this happened and this has been absolutely clear when he daid that shit about Dems being shit now do he moved towards republicans (which is a lie but it's the poiny where the public noticed he is a republican despite him being on the forefront of electric cars), due to his alignment and changes to the poilitical spehere on the US being on the right now means believing a lot of racial conspiracy lies, that environmental change is a lie (which ironically hurts his own business), that January 6 was justified, etc. Elon right now boosts about any and all right wing accounts he ca find by replying "how curious" to the most insane racist meme about the DESPITE BEING 13% meme

Most probably, but there is always the possibility of people either being underage, stupid or unaware due to upbringing (imagine being told your whole life something is in a particular way, it isnt unreasonable not to doubt that) and I prefer to engage honestly with people even if I look like an idiot, just in case.

Of course when clear bad faith is shown I will just not engage, or call it out, but in

If this is why people want their instances to do it that's mainly because lemmy hasn't give appropriate tools at the user level to block entire instances unlike Kbin or Mastodon. (For now you can kind of block seeing them with apps like connect for lemmy, but someone from that instance would still be able to see and repply to your comments, or send you DMs)

As to why a user would want to block an instance and not just particular communities, there are many use cases, for example I didn't want to bñur NSFW images but I didn't want to see my frontpage filled with porn, so instead of blocking 10000 communities I just blocked 2 nsfw instances. There is also the culture fostered inside some communities that can lead them to become filled with alt right people or openly facistic rcho chamber which often harrass people, especially minorities.

I agree completely this request is dumb, but this doesn't look like the community to have this discussion.

Tetris effect is insanely good for the music alone, and with ve the whole thing was an experience

I was talking about the reason of why some comments weren't deleted, which a few weeks ago was being talked about as a conspiracy and was striking me as a little weird conduct by reddit since it was almost a non issue due to the small volume of people doing this compared to the harm of a potential lawsuit.

I agree erasing everything should be easier though

The instance is lemmy.world, the community is c/fediverse, while you can post whatever regardless of your instance, you can't post whatever you like into a community, you need to follow the rules and themes.

Communities are after all the equivalent of subreddits while instances are just serverd where accounts reside and communities are hosted.

I really don't think Lemmy is an instant replacement for reddit, nor should we expect it to be. (Even if it was to ever replace reddit it will take years)

Communities need to grow organically here and move people over by the content that gets produced, one shouldn't really expect for entire subreddits to move over, it will always be a few people and from there it grows.

Hell take r/piracy for example which I think is one of the most "successful" migrations, some of the main mods created and instance and the same community here on Lemmy, they also promoted it heavily before leaving r/piracy to those that wanted to stay over at reddit. While the piracy community is pretty good and vibrant, it is not yhe same as it was in reddit both in volume and in content produced. I much prefer what it is here since it's a lot less meme focused but the point I'm trying to make is that even if communities migrate here, the content is different, a lot of users that produced content won't immediately come over and 8t will be its own thing.

At that point just making the community again here organically instead of relying on the og mods to vome over will probably have a similar effect.

I'm currently seeding quite a few... Let's see what they can do

I think that getting your instance in some of the lists going around would be a good idea, I have accounts on a few instances and most of them I have discovered through any of the lists listed on join-lemmy.org/instances

A big problem is that the awesome lemmy lost doesn't seem to be updated anymore

It's normal to not know this since almost no one outside of the US uses phone messages instead of Whatsapp or telegram

When someone looses the domain name, can they still set up the same server under another one or does it present difficulties for federation if the name was to change?

Edit: just in case, I'm making a post for this question for anyone curious.
