Filthy, injured, and in Florida. It hardly gets any worse than that.

Whether by action or inaction, if your vote supports Trump getting elected, then you are a Trump supporter, a GOP supporter, and share a portion of the responsibility for the greater destruction and genocide that is brought about by that result.

So in fact, we all do get to blame you and others who support Trump.

"Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good" is the operating phrase here.

There's a lot of people demonstrating a sort of purity cult here in the fediverse, where they think anyone who isn't the savior of all humanity incarnate is thus no better than the worst possible choice. There's no nuance, and no consideration for realpolitik.

Look at the reactions to this post for goodness sake... These same users whine and moane about Biden in every other thread, and then here's a story about how Biden doing something good that they actually wanted him to do, and they moan and whine about how it wasn't good enough.

The other commenter has it 100% right. You had to reject the female companion too, but you only complained about the male one. It wasn't a problem when you had to reject a girl coming after you, but when you had to reject a guy coming after you, you wished for some game mechanism to disable that kind of interaction. So yes, it's a form of subconscious homophobia. Look, I'm not calling you a bigot or anything like that, but I am calling you out on having some subconscious prejudice. We all have it somewhere or another. The key is that when you're called out on it you should recognize it and correct it, rather than get defensive about it.

Here in Japan, the term comfort women is used for the exact same reason it is used in English and around the world: it clearly and unequivocally describes the people being it is used to describe.

It's not a weasel word used to avoid talking about the truth. It's just the word that people use to talk about a specific group of victims. It's a useful term that quickly gets us to the core issue, rather than starting at an extremely vague term and requiring clarifying language every time we talk about it. It's just basic communication.

A vote for Biden does more to help Palestinians than your support for Trump does.

Man. Imagine having not only the privileged arrogance you demonstrate in your previous post, but also the blind conceit to accuse others of hypocrisy when you can't even see how the consequences of your own actions lead to more harm for the people you claim to care about.

You're broadcasting "let them eat cake" levels of arrogant privilege.

Jesus Christ this is stupid.

If purity-test people like you would actually fucking vote for change, we could actually enact meaningful change.

Instead, we will never have enough left-leaning politicians to enact any sort of progressive agenda because of braindead voters like you who refuse to vote because the lesser of two evils isn't perfect. And we get stuck in this 51/49 deadlock where nothing good ever happens.

Imagine being so stupid that you'd support the greater of two evils simply because you weren't a fan of the lesser of two evils. Imagine this: You have to eat either a pile of dogshit with a small piece of corn in it, or a pile of corn with a small piece of shit in it. But you get to choose. And you say "ehhhh I don't like corn so I won't choose." How stupid can one be???

I don't care how badly you or I want Bernie, or AOC, or whoever to be the next president. IT ISN'T HAPPENING. So do everybody a favor and fucking vote for the candidate who is BETTER.

If there are two evils to choose from, and you get a choice, CHOOSE THE FUCKING LESSER EVIL.

So... you're the proof of the article I guess?

Wow. This is a uniquely horrible argument with very little thought put into it.

We hunger, and food exists. We thirst, and water exists.

Tell that to anyone dying of thirst or hunger.

We feel horny, and sex is real.

Ok, so who is responsible for the guinea worm? Who willed that into existence?

This isn't a logical argument as much as it's a vapid bit of poetry, akin to "look at the trees." Thus it's not easy to debunk it with a logical argument, because any rational plea you could make can be hand-waived away with as little thought as went into the initial statement. Everyone is providing absurd counterexamples, which I think is a good way of showing how absurd the original statement is, but I think you'd do better if you pushed the speaker to form their argument into something more structured, to move away from wishy-washy nonsense and towards something that can be broken down and discussed. Otherwise your conversation will forever be stuck in the realm of "it just feels that way."

People act like scientists have never even looked at traditional treatments and just ignore them because they are "traditional." Like we haven't had decades upon decades of progress in medicine, exploring every accessible avenue, and only a few of those avenues actually lead anywhere real. Herbs do not "cool down" or "speed up" your blood. Water does not have "memory." There are no such things as "meridians" in your body. We don't need to spend more time researching these things until you can prove that they exist.

People arguing that we need to spend more time researching traditional medicine ignore the fact that we have, and we found it to be bullshit. It's an intellectually dishonest argument, because it just moves the goalposts every time. Traditional medicine supporters will never admit that their medicine is bullshit, because they view it as foundational, so the most they can do is say "we need to examine it more!" Even though the fundamental, most basic claims that these systems are based on are pseudoscientific fairy tales.

If you have to choose between two evils, and you don't choose the lesser one, then you are an absolute knobhead.

[-] osarusan@kbin.social 10 points 1 year ago

Bingo. This is the problem we should be working to solve, rather than trying to convince women to squeeze out babies they don't want to have or can't afford to have. We need to come up with plans to address the changing facts, not desperately try to salvage a status quo that no longer exists.
