Yes, good recommendation for a phone with a chip that was underpowered at release. Good luck for the next 7 years (amount of time you'll get software updates on a flagship phone which costs as much as the fairphone and very rarely fails)

3 years of security updates for 500€ is just not enough. Cool if its repairable but I'd prefer a phone with more updates than a repairable one.

Android is not really at risk when using an up to date os and not giving the app sensitive permissions. Android apps are sandboxed and canot do much without permissions. If you want to be sure, use virustotal as other recommended in the thread. Also maybe avoid sketchy sources

Im am not familiar with proton vpn but on networks that block vpns the only thing that works on mullvad is openvpn on tcp:443 because it can't differentiate between vpn and normal http trafic. I assume its the same on proton
