I don't know. Considering that these guys feel through the cracks and failed to meet the expected height, weight and fitness and were deployed, I do question the quality assurance process and the competence at the top level.

My biology teacher taught me that peanut oil causes cancer. Can't get that out of my brain 30+ years later.

Encyclopaedia sets were expensive but there were all sorts of things you could subscribe to for facts. My parents subscribed me to an animal fact thing where i got some sheets to collect in a folder every month. I'd read the hell out of it and eagerly wait for the next issue. It allowed me to memorise a lot of information about animals.

I also visited the library a lot more before the internet, and there was also Encarta which died as soon as the internet became mainstream.

Absolutely! I brought it into another group for corporate stuff and it was great. We also used it over COVID lockdown for games with another group of friends.

I'll do more research on Matrix and see if i can set something up for a truly seamless transition. Thanks for the suggestion!

I tried getting my friends to move to any other chat client but the thing that keeps them on discord is the screen share. Like it or not, this feature is what's locking people in as a one stop shop game streaming chat.

...Brum? Is that you?

I like that you've shared this so we can all bond over the same anxiety.

Let's say they do the "brave" thing by naming themselves. They're thrown out with their middle fingers up, and replaced by an inexperienced sycophant.

That sycophant is now in charge for hundreds if not thousands of other individuals and their lives.

It's simply not worth their pride to risk the lives of these people under their command.

I think withholding their identities is a smart, if not expected, move.

I'm almost inclined to believe that he just wants an excuse to holiday in NZ. Because if it's for spying... Good grief. Have they bungled it up badly.

...I mean, OPSEC IS CLEAN!

Doesn't the FBI look into issues within USA borders? And doesn't the CIA look into issues outside these borders? I'm confused as to why an FBI office needs to be in Wellington, especially since NZ is a sovereign country. Unless somehow the NZ government is somehow now a state of the US.

Absolutely. I found dining out in America to be really draining. It takes far too long to do anything, and you're constantly being attended to. That's because I'm used to paying up front for the meal, then having the food discretely served, and then leaving immediately once done. I'm sure Americans would find the local service where i live to be extremely poor.

Sorry, i didn't know about that. We still have local radio here in Australia, so it's not so dire down here.

Potentially I Heart Radio to listen to various artists, then internet search to purchase their albums.

Might have to bring back mix tapes and record favourite songs over digital radio!

A dark, slow paced tune about an extinction. Just spreading some Aussie influence, though technically she's UK since she lives and works from there now.

I really love this new song of theirs. Really glad they're still kicking around and coming up with bangers like these.

Also just joined the community after seeing the link in micro globe memes! Loving the collections here.

I switched to a Linux Mint/Win11 dual boot system over the weekend and installed Unity from Flathub. Running Unity Hub is fine but when I try to login, it hangs with no errors. I can log into the asset store just fine, so nothing wrong with the credentials. I'd like to know what terminal commands I could use to see what it's actually doing and figure out why it hangs.

I really don't want to continue using it in Windows and only keep it to run work programs, and really need to use Unity for University.

Edit: Troubleshooted via the terminal, then uninstalled the .Deb package that I downloaded from the Unity website and then followed another tutorial from another part of their website with terminal commands. Managed to log in and run my projects.

Thankfully, the cyclist got away with non life threatening injuries.

Seen on husband's ride to work this morning. Our local council is right on brand.
