We have a bunch of exclusion zones in Edinburgh where you aren't allowed set off fireworks around bonfire night, but I'm going to guess that these are mostly in deprived areas, and not the relatively well-to-do Corstophine where the zoo is.

TNG from the start, but Iimit yourself to the 4 or 5 best rated episodes from Season 1 and 2. Then crack on with most of 3 and 4. 5 onwards starts to have a few more clunkers but by then you should have a good idea if you like it enough to take a chance.

For prosecution they need less coverage in terms of ticket checks. The threat of being caught means the majority of people buy tickets in advance. But if they allow people to buy tickets on the train, then they need to have better coverage.

[-] rubikcuber@feddit.uk 5 points 2 days ago

Just ban them, and let people buy/upgrade tickets on the train. Oh wait, that will mean train companies will have to employ ticket inspectors...

Just be wary of the dog.

"These counterfeit phones, Cohen said, were either out of warranty or contained counterfeit parts, but Apple "wrongly" believed that they were real phones under real warranties"

So not counterfeit. Just real iPhones that were out of warranty or has been repaired by a third party.

This data is not beautiful.

Things that Liz Truss thinks are equivalent:

"Far left" activists unveiling poster of a googlyeye lettuce.

Far right activists burning down hotels housing refuges; looting bakeries for sausage rolls.

Let me guess. These are the same people who refuse vaccines with miniscule mortality rates, but are demanding milk infected with a virus that has more than a 50% mortality rate in humans? 🤔

Also, how is intentional getting infected to aquire immunity better than doing nothing at all? I mean, just don't worry about it. If you get infected then you're either dead or immune, and if you don't get infected you didn't need that immunity anyway. Plus, you've saved money by not buying your weirdo raw cow juice.

I saw this on Mastodon posted by @infobeautiful@vis.social and figured that it was appropriate for this community and absolutely not controversial in any way shape or form.

It's a Thursday again. The worst day of the week. Or is it? Disguised as a Wednesday for those south of the border, and a Tuesday for those of us in the land of the Scots.

What are your moans for this day and this week, the first week of the work year?

Personally, I've added app timers to all my time sink apps in an effort to become less dependent on my phone. It's 9.40am and I've already maxed out Megalodon, so I'm onto Lemmy/Voyager. Going well.

Also... I'm still off with the kids. Edinburgh schools didn't break up until the 22nd of December. Which seemed like a good idea at the time, but we're paying for it now.

I'm sorry to report the continued decline of Aldi's "Scottish Blend" tea. It is now beyond terrible. Awful. The worst. The worse of the worst. Even worse than that.

Naturally I'm not going to go from an Aldi special to Twinings. I'm not made of money. So, I'm looking for recommendations of a good cheap tea. Ideally one that goes well with your plant milk as well as cow juice.

If possible, Sainsburys, M&S, Aldi, Food Warehouse or Poundies. Maybe Lidl at a stretch. They others are too far away and require me going in the car, and I'm too ~~lazy~~ environmentally conscious for that.

Thanks in advance!

Edit: Or Asda! For some reason I forgot that Asda is literally the nearest supermarket to the house.

If you're not paying you are the product. If you ARE paying you are STILL the product. This is how big tech works.

Tuesday, Tuesday. Up here in Scotland (specifically Edinburgh) it's the last day of the school holidays. To any other parents north of the border - we've done it, folks. The end is in sight. Looking forward to tomorrow's hectic early morning followed by a day of bliss.

Anyway, TV and Tunes Tuesday! Whatcha watching and listening to? Recommendations for movies, TV shows and music please!

Personally I have the last episode of Strange New Worlds, which I'm saving for tomorrow lunchtime and then it's sayonara Paramount +. We've also just finished the reboot of Quantum Leap, which was cheesy but fun.

Music wise. Well, I'm a gen-xer so I've been listening to the remasters of the Lush albums. Long live shoegaze, the only correct style of dancing.

Don't get me wrong. I'm a big fan of marmite. But I'm not an animal. I have it on toast, or a bagel, or maybe a toastie if I'm feeling reckless.

But my son wants marmite sandwiches. Sandwiches! How is it possible to spread marmite on bread without the bread disintegrating? Is there a technique that in my five decades on this earth I have not been able to master?

It would be great to have the option of a short summary for the post content in the "Large list" view. For example the first 100 or so characters of a post text. Either that or the option to limit the length of the post content shown in the "full" view. Thanks!

It's Saturday! For many of us, probably the best day of the week. Even if it turns out to be crap then we still have Sunday waiting in reserve.

So, what are your exciting plans for this, a traditional drizzly British summer weekend?

We were planning another two day camping trip, but with thunderstorms forecast at our destination, I think as a family we have all decided to dump that concept and just doss around instead.

FriYay Thread! (feddit.uk)

Yay! It's Friday!

After a week of niceish weather, we await the inevitable rain. But on the plus side, it's almost the weekend!

Personally we are off camping, in doing so encouraging precipitation. But what exciting things do you have planned for the weekend?

The tyranny of Thursday is upon us. Another one of these "not quite the weekend days" that life keeps throwing at us. What has got you fuming on this, the worst day of the week?

13

Don't use the hump word or it's an instaban! Just kidding, I'm no mod, I'm just some guy, you know.

What games have you been playing this last week? Video games or other. Have you gone back to Tears of the Kingdom yet? Are you spending the rainy school holidays stuck inside playing Pokemon cards with your kids? Found something in the Steam summer sale you want to shout about? Let us know here.

Black Oil (feddit.uk)

Didn't have my glasses on this morning when I ground the beans and my espresso seems to be 1ml of coffee oil.

Oh hi.

Hopefully our mod is away on holiday and not come a cropper or worse, deserted us. In the meantime, I'm going to take it upon myself to post the "TV and Tunes Tuesday" thread.

What TV shows or movies you been watching this week? Or perhaps you've got some great new music recommendations. Let us know how you've been whiling away the hours and trying to justify all those streaming subscriptions.
