I don't. Maybe I should. I have housemates who use the garage for their actual cars, so I do feel like I'm trusting them to keep the garage door closed, but then again, one of them works from home, so he usually keeps an eye on things. Also, my neighborhood is like super dead, basically nothing ever happens there.

No it isn't. It's based on the infinite human ability to exploit others for personal gain, and its functioning for those who benefit from it is predicated on the existence of a working class that produces more in value than they are allowed to benefit from.

Socialism is not communism. It is based on the idea that workers should have ownership over their work, and it has been put into practice in the form of worker-owned cooperatives, like the Mondragon Corporation in Spain, as well as many that aren't the size of entire small cities. My argument is that an economy organized predominantly by that model would work much better for everybody.

We have what you could refer to as a Gordian knot of interconnected societal problems. You can try to fix any one of them, but any solution will be hamstrung in the absence of a solution to a bunch of other ones.

For example, local live music scenes in cities across the US have been suffering for some time, and part of the reason is because bar revenue has gone down a lot. And part of the reason for that is because you can't drink as much if you have to drive home. And you have to drive home from the show because the public transit options to get there suck ass, and that's because our cities are too spread out, there's not enough residential or commercial density, and the roads have too many car lanes, and they're too wide, so everyone drives too fast on them and everything is too far apart to walk to, so no matter where you put your public transit, it's going to serve a small fraction of the people it should. And all of that is just one tiny microcosm of the problem: in order to revitalize the music scene in your city, you have to first fix its zoning laws, transit, and housing policies. It's enough to make you want to go see Gordian Knot on tour with Cattle Decapitation, except tickets are being sold via Ticketmaster so good fucking luck getting any.

Amen. Don't have to worry about the house, neighborhood, or city infrastructures supporting your EV if your EV is an ebike that can plug into a standard outlet in your living room, or wherever you keep it. Or if you can just walk a quarter mile and hop on a light rail. Or if instead of driving a Ford, you just use your Chevrolegs. Of course, this does also require development patterns to support it, i.e. roads that aren't fucking death traps for anyone outside a car and stuff being close enough together that you can actually get to it in a reasonable amount of time, but hey, there are also non-car-related reasons we should be doing those things too.

there's really no investment cost to trying out an account on any of them, i've been using lemmy.ca because i have family in canada and it seemed appropriate, haven't had any of the instability issues that i've had when using my .world account. there are plenty to choose from so honestly just go with whatever passes your vibe check
