yeah like why can't people just get married if they want to get married, or not get married if they don't want to get married? has never made sense to me

[-] teuast@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 year ago

I don't. Maybe I should. I have housemates who use the garage for their actual cars, so I do feel like I'm trusting them to keep the garage door closed, but then again, one of them works from home, so he usually keeps an eye on things. Also, my neighborhood is like super dead, basically nothing ever happens there.

Might not be the worst idea, though.

how about the Abu Dhabi Tour? A week-long stage race on the least interesting terrain on the planet. The first stage frequently has a finishing straight that's 60k long.

We have what you could refer to as a Gordian knot of interconnected societal problems. You can try to fix any one of them, but any solution will be hamstrung in the absence of a solution to a bunch of other ones.

For example, local live music scenes in cities across the US have been suffering for some time, and part of the reason is because bar revenue has gone down a lot. And part of the reason for that is because you can't drink as much if you have to drive home. And you have to drive home from the show because the public transit options to get there suck ass, and that's because our cities are too spread out, there's not enough residential or commercial density, and the roads have too many car lanes, and they're too wide, so everyone drives too fast on them and everything is too far apart to walk to, so no matter where you put your public transit, it's going to serve a small fraction of the people it should. And all of that is just one tiny microcosm of the problem: in order to revitalize the music scene in your city, you have to first fix its zoning laws, transit, and housing policies. It's enough to make you want to go see Gordian Knot on tour with Cattle Decapitation, except tickets are being sold via Ticketmaster so good fucking luck getting any.

Union-busting is absolutely part of the fascist agenda.

No, it’s part of the capitalist agenda

That's what they just said.

and its a good thing.

If you're an obscenely wealthy ghoul who profits off the suffering of everyone who has less money than you, then yes. In all other cases, absolutely the fuck not.

If you don’t want to do your job then quit. That goes for cops, UAW workers, teachers, and more.

So you'd be happy if all the cops, auto workers, teachers, nurses, firefighters, etc. quit? You'd rather have massive and continuous societal upheaval than workers collectively bargaining for the right to make a decent living doing their jobs? I'd rather have a functioning society, personally, and that's why I support unions and you should too.

In terms of pianos and keyboards, maybe, but those also aren't overlooked, they're broadly considered among the best you can get. They own Bosendorfer now too, btw. Drums are just fuckin expensive in general, and most drummers I think you'll talk to are generally aware of them along with the likes of Pearl and DW.

You might be talking about guitars and basses, which would be fair, most people don't associate Yamaha with guitars and basses. The thing is, the most expensive non-signature Pacifica currently in production is like $750 and comes with Duncan pickups and a Wilkinson trem. And even the Revstars, which are out of my price range, come in quite a ways under comparable Gibsons.
