Even the indie cinemas have this problem now. I went to see Oppenheimer at The loft Cinema in Tucson, Arizona and the projection was just awful. The frame wobbled, The focus seemed off, and the screen was filthy. I instantly regretted attempting to view the 70 mm version. It looks so much better on my 4K TV at home.

Even on Windows, Proton drive is hot garbage. It never syncs my files correctly. Has a tendency to leave half encrypted uploads just lying around. Eating up desk space.

Don't even get me started on how long it takes to upload anything. Got a 1 GB file? Good luck!

And that's before getting into the fact that it's proton's third product. It was announced in 2019. 5 years and they still don't have proton drive as a working product.

Another gripe I have is that the Linux VPN client still doesn't support wireguard. Sure, you can download wireguard configuration files. And they work just fine. But changing servers is a pain in the ass because of it.

It's made me seriously consider dropping my visionary plan and moving to a more competent provider.

That being said, proton mail has been fantastic. And I have a ton of domains on it. So it would be a pain to move. I guess I'm just in a stalemate.

One unique tip that I have is to go to a CBD/Hemp store and snag some CBD heavy strains to mix in with your normal bud. Making sure to increase the % of CBD each time you grind.

It might not help immediately, since CBD is supposed to be a calming substance, not a stimulant. But quitting smoking is a whole lot easier once you are mostly on the CBD stuff.

Definitely avoid the CBG heavy hemp as that'll just give you the gnarliest munchies you'll ever have in your life. Some people swear it's "smart weed" - but for me I can't think straight when munchies are knocking.

I dunno, my OLED panel has some notable image retention issues - and a screensaver does appear to help in that regard.

Eh, I went back to screen savers due to my use of OLED panels. Better than a static lock-screen image for sure.

I'm over 30 and I have both older and younger acquaintances and family that engage in this macho culture. For the younger ones, I have sympathy, I was much like that too as a young adult - or tried to be anyways. I never really fit in though and I grew up and grew out of trying to "fit in" so hard.

For the older ones however, it's quite puzzling. I don't get it. How much lived experience does one need to ignore to figure this out? Is the quest for a male approved identity really preferable to growing into a well developed, emotionally mature man that is actually required to maintain relationships?

It's stories like those in the article that make me understand the hostility that more extreme feminists react with when presented with things like the "male loneliness epidemic". (My second reaction, though is that if you think the "alphas" are the lonely ones, you might be mistaken - if that's the norm, then the "good ones" must be the REALLY lonely ones.)

I met my wife on OKCupid before it went to crap. She just kept telling me how I was so "respectful" compared to literally everyone else she met in years. I didn't understand then, and nowadays I can only explain so much of that behavior. I suppose it's a mix of the dominant media culture and internet culture being amplified by actors who either are ignorant of, profit from, or take advantage of it all.

Probably not feasible in our case. We sell our DB tech based on the sheer IOPS it's capable of. It already alerts the user if the write-cache is full or the replication cache is backing up too.

The problem is, at full tilt, a 9 node cluster can take on over 1GB/s in new data. This is fine if the customer is writing over old records and doesn't require any new space. It's just that it's more common that Mr. customer added a new microservice and didn't think through how much data it requires. Thus causing rapid increase in DB disk space or IOPs that the cluster wasn't sized for.

We do have another product line in the works (we call it DBaaS) and that can autoscale because it's based on clearly defined service levels and cluster specifications. I don't think that product will have this problem.

It's just these super mega special (read: big, important, fortune 100) companies have requirements that mean they need something more hand-crafted. Otherwise we'd have automated the toil by now.

From what I understand this is incredibly common amongst us. Essentially picking out the "relevant" information is really hard when there's a lot of other loud signals blaring.

For my Sony headphones I have a slider to set how strong the noise cancellation is set. If it's set to anything lower than max/wind reduction you can check a box to amplify voices. It's pretty darn good.

From what I understand the Pixel Buds can also do this REALLY well, but I haven't used those. Lots of smart earbuds can do it these days, just expect to pay a couple hundred for it.

Agree, most mainstream distros have it all handled for the most part and it normally "just works".

Now, myself on Gentoo testing on the other hand... Sometimes I shoot myself in the foot and forget to rebuild my kernel modules and wind up needing to chroot to fix things - all because I have an NVidia card.

It is absolutely wild to see TucsonSentinel all over the fediverse suddenly. I'm glad others like their reporting!

I mention this because I almost thought this was posted to Tucson.social and I normally remove non-local articles. Lol

Not OP, but I do have a few issues where behaviors may overlap with shutdowns (silent treatment) or might be indicative of ADHD (weaponized forgetfulness and forced business).

It's solid, but may not always be helpful for the ND community since this is all being said without ND behaviors being considered and compared.

Particularly, I'd struggle if someone accused me of being passive aggressive when I genuinely forget a thing.
