We still have plenty of people alive in the US whose parents were literal slaves...

I'd argue he single-handedly saved thousands of lives via a single action, and if we let him do more, he could save many more.

No, the US doesn't deserve sympathy for this. Not until we actually start fighting back.
The only people right now in the US that have any sympathy from me, as a USian are the people out on the streets, actively stopping ICE, or sabotaging federal equipment and processes.
The rest of the country? Yeah, we'll learn our lesson eventually.
