Explanation: Mehmed the Conqueror, Sultan of the Ottoman Empire, was the one who finally conquered Constantinople (now Istanbul) and finished off the ailing Byzantine Empire. He did so by bringing what was, in the 15th century AD, a truly ludicrous amount of cannons, a then-cutting-edge technology, including the largest piece ever made up 'til that point in world history.

Light novel idea: someone like Bismarck or Cavour is isekaid into Byzantium of this era, and has to diplomacy it back into a world power.
