You know how it is, late at night, deep in raki and cold water with the boys, and someone challenges you to destroy the age-old nemesis of your rising empire - tale as old as time!
Byzantium joins China and later Belgium who had entirely too much faith in their "impregnable fortifications".
For a long time their faith was warranted. And not like they could do much in that situation from what I remember, they didn't have much power to go on the offensive.
Ye, it was a dying empire at that point anyway. But we're just shitposting here :D
Light novel idea: someone like Bismarck or Cavour is isekaid into Byzantium of this era, and has to diplomacy it back into a world power.
