Probably.

That said Trump is likely shooting his mouth off because it normalizes Putin's actions in Ukraine. Or simply to weaken trust in the US and its alliances.

I guess we'll see in the long term.

I still don't buy the idea there is method to this madness

Trump is a spoiled brat who has shown no sign of intelligence. He is running America like he ran all his business which all went to the shitter. The fact he is not in jail and pennyless is a testament as to how terminal American capitalism is at this point

If Trump wanted to do half the ulterior motives people assign to him, he is going about the worst possible way. He could to a ton more damage by not running his mouth 3/4 of the time

IMO this is just a naked grift. He is treating other countries like he did his contractors and business partners, extorsion plus "if you don't like, sue me" thinking most would not see the point. He is too stupid to realise countries are not struggling small business owners not willing to see years of litigation through

Finally, he may love Putin but I no longer buy the idea Putin has something to blackmail Trump with... What could be released to turn the maga idiots at this point?

Good point about Putin and the kompromat, however to assume it's Trump designing these plans is a bad move.

Trump didn't design Project 2025, but he's followed much of it regardless. Trump is a salesman.

Peter Thiel, Marc Andreesen, Sam Altman, lots of billionaires are invested in libertarian projects, cities, or fifedoms. Lots of them also fund, follow, or push the ideas of Curtis Yarvin about destroying democracy.

So you're right, it might not be Putin.

That said Trump is a Narcissist, and narcissists do tend to care about how they're perceived... Plus there are people like Victoria Spartz who are now in the Senate, but whom have ties to Russian interests.

... it's not always about the kompromat, it's often just about how many ties around the individual (who have influence on their actions) also have interests in the direction pushed.
