Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). 3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Pretty sure PRC has been around for only 70ish years.

I wonder who build that really big wall...

Must've been aliens

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

So China has existed for 5000 years but America has only existed since white peoples decided to start a government? Or are you cool with Native Americans claiming 50,000 years?

[–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 3 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

The Chinese people lived in China prior to the PRC. The same is not true for the European colonialists.

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

American people lived in America prior to Europeans too. That was my point.

[–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago) (1 children)

We’re talking about the United States, not Americans. The people that created the United States were not Americans. They were Europeans. They didn’t begin to settle here until the 17th century. The Chinese didn’t immigrate to China to found the PRC.

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

No. We are talking about China and I asked a specific question. Now you are bordering on being racist.

[–] notjustlurking@lemmynsfw.com 0 points 31 minutes ago (1 children)

You are being obtuse, and know that the natives in America are not the ones in political power.

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 1 points 16 minutes ago

It’s not obtuse to point out that it’s racist to say that what the Chinese had 5000 years ago was a nation but what the Incas or Cherokees, for instance, had was not.

It was built by the Qin Dynasty, which despite being called "the first unified China" was a fraction of the size of modern China. And was built in part to keep people who are also now Chinese, and not just Mongols) out of "China"

And it also didn't last, it was fractured whem that dynasty fell.

Other than distant genetics, they have as much in common with modern China as the Greek government does to the linage of Ptolemy.

Are you implying that the PRC built the wall?
