I doubt we'll ever see better conditions for a 3rd party victory than the 2016 election, and even then they did terribly.

I definitely wouldn't mind seeing the groundwork laid for it, mostly in the form of ranked choice voting becoming more popular.

Ireland is a great place to model after as they have plenty of successful independents.
