Absolutely not. Lifeguards literally save so many lives. Maybe it's different in the US with its weird power structures and motives, but lifeguards are more like the fire brigade than the police here...

Ah yeah very different here in US. Our lifeguards carry M16s and routinely harass and deport Mexicans. Drowning is an arrestable offense

When someone says lifeguard, I think bored teenager by the pool making sure people don't drown. Not the coast guard.

Can't answer for the US since I'm not American but I do appreciate lifeguards
